case knife pattern 18 question

It arrived today shortly before I had to leave for work. I think I like it. I said I wanted a main blade that followed the handle contour. Well, if it were any closer I would not be able to open it. I wish the main blade was a tad higher. It opens very smoothly, it is not at all difficult, but it looks a bit funny as low as it is.
The blades are tight, and walk and talk flawlessly. Fit and finish are not perfect, but it's nice. I'm satisfied for now.

WMB, nice Utica Stockman - I think you will enjoy carrying that pocketknife. For me the Case 18 Stockman pattern (and other brands of the same size) hit the sweet spot for an EDC - just the right size for unobtrusive pocket carry, but plenty of knife to do most any job. While you are looking and acquiring knives of this style you might want to add the old Schrade USA 897UH Uncle Henry to your list. Virtually the same knife as the Case 18 - the Uncle Henry came with stainless blades while the Old Timer version had carbon steel blades. Here are a couple of mine, the NRA SFO is pictured with a Case 5318 for comparison. OH

I love the shape of the uh 897. I've nearly pulled the trigger a dozen times on the bay for a vintage one, but I really prefer the carbon steel. I haven't been able to score an o.t. equivalent yet, unfortunately.

I thought I had read that they were. I think it would seem strange with patinated blades and a shiny punch. But then I'm not sure about stainless springs with patina colored blades either. But I like case knives so much that I get over it. Man, if they made it with cv punch and springs though, that would be sweet.

Ok, I went with the big pine because I wanted carbon steel springs. It's got one stainless spring
