Hey everyone

I just had a quick question concerning a case knife I just got. No I am not selling or trying to find it's value but I am curious on whether or not I should use it or put it away.

It's a case xx russlock. It looks very similar to this one <non-paid dealer link removed>Sorry about that....Hummm, There are similar knives that can still be bought for around 60 bucks . Seems to be a common knife.

The main difference is this one has 01-01-01 stamp on the wooden handle. Should I use it or just put it up and hand it down to my son later?

Thanks

I think it was a limited run of 3000 or so. That said, Case Russlocks are a dime a dozen and not worth a ton of money... even the limited ones. Use it.

FWIW The Russlock is my favorite CaseXX pattern and all of mine get used.

i dont collect russlocks so not sure but in 01 was first year of the russlock since they just came out with 10th anniversary ones so i would put it up

That is bad luck. I would immediately give it away before something goes wrong. I will provide an address.

I did some googling, and it looks like they were made with both 12-31-00 and 01-01-01 stamps on the shields, and in various handle materials, and that 75 of each were made. I can't find how many different handle materials they were made in.

That's said, it's "rare", but it's also common, in that Case puts out a nearly countless amount of special editions, "limited" editions, and SFO's (special factory orders - editions commissioned by dealers). If you put it up for auction, you might get a bit more for it than a regular one. Maybe. And it might appreciate in value, in, say, a few decades. Maybe.

Thanks for the information! I think for now I'll put it up. It's not like I don't have plenty others to carry around.

Thanks again everyone.

I would use it. I haven't made up my mind completely but I think I'm going to get back into RLs.
