Case Knives...

One of the finest looking patterns around.

If you like multi blade knives I highly reccomend the humpback stockman with a spear main. It's the equal of any manufacturer and superior to most. There's a discontinued lockback pattern that I'm partial to.View attachment 1088852 View attachment 1088853

For the very uninitiated to Case, what are the covers on that Humpback Stockman? I really like those on that frame. It fits it well.

I love Case knives. I have many modern ones, and they’re awesome. Probably 30% of my traditional collection is Case, just because they’re cheap and easy to pick up when I need a knife fix.

But I’m primarily a scout knife collector, and Case doesn’t currently make any scouts. I’d love to add some vintage Case scouts to my collection, but the prices on the aftermarket are just too far out my price range to be feasible.

Wow, thanks for all the replies and pics! I have had a large Stockman sitting in my desk for years. Never did pocket carry it, and now I have been looking at traditional slipjoints. I joined the Case Collectors Club and bought the new members knife, a Peanut. I have two Mini-Copperlocks incoming, as well as a Northfield Pemberton, and a Lion Steel Barlow from CK. I like the idea as stated above by Buzzbait regarding their price. It is much easier to pick one up on the fly, considering their cost compared to many of the other knives I own. Thanks for all the great info!

Yup! That's my allure with Case. I find I have picked up each and every one of my Case knives kind of randomly at hardware stores. I'll be buying lawn fertilizer or something, see a Case display, ask to see a few patterns, pick out one with good fit and finish and throw it in with the purchase. That "hands on" store purchase is lacking when I buy a GEC from an online retailer or a Buck from a Walmart shelf.
I do enjoy those hardware store moments where you interact with a salesperson while talking about an affordable, quality American pocket knife. Seems to fit with the traditional theme perfectly, and wouldn't seem out of place 100 years ago.

Did somebody say Case Knives?????

@knarfeng mentioned that Case doesn't introduced new patterns and he is correct; however, over time, Case has pretty much made every pattern and every so often, Case will reintroduce a pattern from their past.

I don't know if you can tell, but I like Case knives and their quality. Sure there are glitches every once in awhile but all the other manufactures experience a bump once in awhile too.

The knives pictured above are just a few of what I have. I LIKE EM111111
Looks like a lot of medium stockman. Am I right?

What are those in the third pic by the way? Looks like stockman blades but the handles look stubbier. Maybe it's just the angle.

Here's a recent thread about carrying a Large Stockman: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/case-large-stockman-belt-sheath.1646723/

And I love the MiniCopperlock. I have quite a few modern folders but, regardless of overall design, I have always been partial to back locks and the MiniCopperlock is excellent. It may be my favorite back lock and one of my favorite designs period.

That Lion Steel Barlow is a real looker for sure!

Are we doin' this? :)
Let's do this.

Picked up the pair for $20 at an estate sale.
Can't go wrong with a Case in your pocket.

The interesting thing is that I generally don't like back locks. Definitely don't care for the Spyderco version. However for some reason, the Mini-Copperlock back lock seems almost ...elegant in comparison.

About 12 years ago I got started with a Case medium stockman yellow handle cv blade and was happy with it at the price and decided to try the stainless in the same stockman and how they compared. Both did well, not exceptional but decent. Then I got a large trapper cv and much the same. Then the next three were a disappointment. Blades were set at a bad angle in open or closed position, back springs proud or sunken in either position. Wouldn’t hold an edge much more than a piece of foil. It appeared to me the quality had diminished and after contacting a representative there wasn’t much help so that turned me off and haven’t bought any since. Now I depend on my Buck Knives and haven’t been disappointed yet.

For me case has some beautiful patterns and handles but ultimately I want users and their blades are in my opinion run too soft and don't make for a good user. I love the Case Bose ideas but their prices put me out a bit hard to spend so much on a knife myself. I really wish Case would come out with some premium line that had better blade steels and higher QC for F&F and the appropriate jump in price tag. I currently have 2 case knives in my collection both were my grandfathers one he used the other as far as I can tell is effectively NIB. I will never let go of the user knife it has more value and sentiment to me however the NIB one I have debated selling as Case knives while visually great in use are not as impressive along with the pattern being on of more limited use to me.

Yes, there are some medium stockman (pattern 47) in the first picture and the ones in the third picture are Sowbelly knives.

While I am firmly a stockman fan, there is a place for other knives, and my VERY eclectic collection (accumulation) reflects that.
One of my favorite two-bladers is this clip and Wharncliffe Copperhead jack in green jigged burnt bone, from 1989.

I will admit that I sometimes feel as though Case is a bit out of touch with knife collectors, like their only audience is existing long term customers. How long did it take for them to reintroduce the Barlow pattern after Barlows became red hot with collectors? Where is the two-blade jack in the 3 3/4" to 3 7/8" range? They ran some knives in 154CM a couple years ago, which could have been a huge hit, but decided to only do the Backpocket and large trapper? I really scratch my head sometimes, and worry that Case may be the next American traditional knife manufacturer to fall. I see a lot of vintage patterns that I'd love to have, but not nearly as many patterns that are currently in production.

Here’s probably my favorite release they’ve made in awhile thought about making a thread on it but I’ll just post it here. Barehead jigged rosewood CV blades with whatever they did to the blades and a spear/arrowhead shield. It looks great

Case calls that blade finish "Stone Wash". They've done it on several of their knives - Doctor's knife, single blade sowbelly, etc.. I too like it.

Case has what they call "The Vault". They will run a pattern for a few years and then put it in the vault. This is what happened to the Barlow. They ran the pattern for ten years and then put it in the vault and 8-years later brought it out of the vault, which was just a few months ago. The reason they do this is to keep up interest in a pattern so that when they reintroduce it it will sell well. Just look what happened when they reintroduced the Barlow this year at Blade. Sales took off like gang busters and many of their Barlows are on back order now.
