What is your opinion of the newer Case slip Joints? I mean a two or maybe three blade knife about 3-3 1/2 inches long.

I've been carrying Case knives for 50 yrs. Got one in my pocket now. They are good knives even after all the changes in ownership. A thin blade, takes a edge, and fits in your pocket. They are cheap eough for the average guy and still perform.

Oh by the way I was in class 48 UDTJIM. :-)

they are awesome....the stainless is nice, but the cv (carbon steel) is wicked....I've been using almost exclusively slipjoints for about a month or so...and my case stockman (which was given to me by a very fine and generous bladeforums member is one of my favorites.

I got a neat Case peanut as an anniverary gift a couple of months ago. It is perfect for carrying at work in dress pants, because it is so small. It has Case's Tru Sharp stainless blades, which seem on par with SAK blade quality.

I see more Case knives in my future.

I have a lot of good ones, but I am sending a new one back. two of the three blades will not close, without being pushed down by hand, even after oiling & new out of the box a piece of the bone handle was missing. all of my 1970-1980 models are great!

I have mixed feelings about Case. I like my fairly recent CV yellow barehead trapper, despite the small flaws in it. I've seen a few that were kind of disappointing considering the price. And the last two Case knives I bought, both small economical lockbacks, went back because the blades would fold with the same pressure it takes on a slipjoint. Really disappointing. Most Case knives, though, seem aimed at the collector market.

Sad to say, but American made production slipjoints are a variable lot, and often not a good value, IMO. Honestly, it's difficult to beat a simple, inexpensive Victorinox when it comes to slipjoints.

I really think that all big manufactured slip joint knives have the same problems with blades being a little loose sometimes. Never had a problem with soft springs on a case, been lucky I guess. As far as the blade sharpness I've never had a knife that was sharp out of the box. If I buy a user I just know that it needs reprofiled. Seems like you’re looking for a user and if it were me I'd get the medium stockman or mini trapper in the yellow handle and CV blades and try it. I've had both of these in the past gave the trapper to my dad who has carried it for about 6 years now and I wore out the stockman. They're both about 3 1/5in. and in the mid $30 range. Most places have more than one of these if you buy in person take it out of the box and check it out good.

I love the CASE I just got for Christmas.

It is the small texas jack: 3 1/2" closed, clip and pen blade, CV(carbon) steel, and amber bone handles. Should be just what you are looking for. If you want three blades, they also have a medium stockman in CV, and amber bone handles, it is 3 1/2" closed as well.
www.caseknifeoutlet.com has pretty good deals.

As with any large manufacturer, defective products will always slip through the cracks, but I have heard more good than bad of CASE. The one I am fondling right now, is absolutely beautiful.

since we're pn the subject let me put in a plug for boker slippie I recently got 2 a large stockman and a large congress both are built like tanks....no blade play carbon steel and very solid in the hand and both would be suited for woods duty.

I've been very happy with the last few case knives i've bought, fit and finish seems very good and blades walked and talked well. Of course they could have been sharper but that's not a big deal.

My father is a Case collector and so is my wife. Well, the only set that my wife bothered to collect was the raspberry edition. I never used them. I see more people collecting them rather than using them. I am more of a knife user myself.

I have a lot of Cases, and I've never had any of the problems I've heard described here, fortunately. Although the last one I bought (about 3 mos. ago) I had to take back to the knife counter 3 times after further inspection before leaving the store. They gladly exchanged it for me each time though. I guess you just have to thoroughly inspect them before walking out the door with them. No problems with performance though.

Thanks to all. I have only two Case Knives. One is a small two blade slip joint and the other is a folding hunter. This one is real thin all Metal. Its a good knife but its awful hard to release the blade lock. I almost need a Pliars to do it.

Good to hear from you sams.

Case only has a few patterns I like. My favorite is the Seahorse whittler. I like the wharncliffe trappers too. Oh, and those large saddlehorns with the huge spey blade also. The Seahorse is by far my favorite.

I carry a medium stockman Case CV every day and a sodbuster jr CV also. My favorite knives are my Case ones. I don't buy them unless I can personally check them out though.
