Hello. New to the forums. This is my first post. I've been reading many threads over the last few days and exploring the features of this site. Seems like a fairly well established site with a lot of experienced posters.

I don't really consider myself to be a hard-core "collector", because I don't really frequent the knife shows or get involved in the online forums. But for the last 25 years or so, I've been slowly building up a collection of knives, well, one model knife in particular. The Case Mini Copperhead. I don't know why this model holds such a fascination with me, but ever since I bought my first one at a small local flea market years ago, I've always had one in my pocket.

I haven't counted them lately, but I think I have over 50 different handle colors/patterns/materials.

Lately I've been reading the posts about RIT-dying the scales. Very interesting stuff. Most of the time people are always trying to darken or "enhance" the original color. Curious if anyone has tried any lightening techniques?

Any way, the reason I was posting this is that it has become more and more difficult to find unique knives (ones that I don't already own). I sometimes find them on auction sites and occasionally have found them at Case retailers. I tried thumbing through your Exchange section, but didn't really find much. Maybe that's because everybody else likes them too! ;-)

I was wondering where you guys have found most of your gems in the past, if you don't mind sharing? Is there some Wanted-To-Buy section or sites that have produced good results?

Any direction is appreciated. And if you find yourself having a model or two that you'd like to part with, please feel free to message or email me. I can promise you they will be in good company. :-)

Some day I may try to show off my collection here. So far, I've kept my collection private. Don't really know why.

Thanks again.
Walter

If you like the Case Mini Copperhead pattern in particular, consider joining the Case Collector's Club. They have a forum and for-sale/trade/want-to-buy sections, though not terribly active. There are also exclusive releases just for the CCC members so that might be a source of new knives.

Also, check out the Case Master Dealers from their web site . Some of them do SFO runs which you have to buy directly from them, so it's good to get them on your radar. Some have catalogs or mailing lists, others you just have to check their web sites.

There is a Want to Buy section here in the Exchange forums. I have always had my best luck looking for specific older Case knives on EBay. You just have to search and check often, and sometimes be willing to pay too much or just be patient.

Www.wrcase.com will have links to the dealers and info on how to join their collectors club.

Thanks for responding, John. I've thought about joining the club a time or two, but never pulled the trigger. Maybe I'll take another look.

I've noticed that some of the links to the dealer's sites on the Case site no longer work, or are not listed. Maybe they just don't keep up with them. ??

Oh well, it wouldn't be much fun if you didn't have to hunt for them. :-)

If you want folks to be able to contact you, you will need to do something with your profile to make it possible for folks to either pm or email you.

Thanks. I didn't realize those things were turned off by default. I believe I've found the right option in my profile to allow emails, but it looks like forum messaging is reserved for paid subscribers. (I can't even delete the Welcome message from joining the board.)
