Case offerings and options

I don't know if that violet bone is really my style but It sure looks striking in your picture.

That finish is nice too, it may not be a nice patinad carbon steel but it looks to be a decent substitute.

I have to be honest I purchased the Violet just to have something different and really was hesitant. But after getting it in hand and seeing it I really like it. As far as the blade steel I’m happy with either one and was very impressed that all 3 of my Copperheads came hair popping sharp. No need to knock off the rough edge which wouldn’t of been a dealer breaker but a pleasant surprise not having to give them a couple swipes on the stones.

The Penknife is available in both steels and I have no strong preference with either as they perform the same, glazed or as ground on stainless looks and uses better than crocus polish though. But what I'm annoyed with is the Penknife only comes in Yellow Delrin :(

Be nice to have some bone options or some of their recent woods e.g. Sycamore as it's a great pattern shamefully neglected by its maker....

My first quality pocketknife (that wasn’t a Scout Knife) was a Buck 301 my Grandmother gave me for Christmas in 1972. The first sheath knife I bought for myself was a Buck 105 I bought while stationed at APG MD in 1976 - it was my Army field knife. With that background and experience I would say I’ve always viewed SS as the “regular or expected” blade steel for a quality knife. I own lots of carbon steel pocketknives now and began carrying a small Schrade OT as my EDC around 1983 or so, but initially disliked the way the blades peppered when it was still only a few years old. I understand the differences and preferences as expressed by the various viewpoints here, but have come to view the two as equals with different performance characteristics - a Case in SS suits me fine and a Case in CV suits me fine as well. If I like the pattern and the covers (the darker the better) I will buy one steel just as quickly as the other. OH

Thanks my friend and actually I didn’t even realize the Violet was bone and not synthetic like the green until it arrived lol.
Here’s a couple of close ups for you👍🏻
It’s funny but the Violet I like the best and thought the Zombie green would of been my favorite.

That’s good to know, I was wondering why this one is $5 more, they really need to fix their description because it says they’re all synthetic. 👍

I guess I'm with the minority on this--I've had good luck and performance with Case's Tru-Sharp. It takes a great edge for me and is plenty durable for general usage.

It's very hot and humid where I live and a Case CV or GEC carbon blade develops pepper spots with amazing speed, no matter how careful I am or how diligent I am about keeping them oiled. I don't mind a patina but pepper spots, which are usually deep enough to leave a pit, drive me nuts.

So summer carry is often a stainless knife.

you get enough pepper spots, and you have a great patina.... :D
that's just CHARACTER, my friend!

at least that's what I tell people about the age spots on my hands....

That explains why I thought the Violet was synthetic. The box says bone and you can tell by the little bit of extra weight and feel in hand.
Also what a bargain these copperheads are at such a more then fair price !

And the 33 small pen only seems to have 3 options, stainless only too.

I imagine if they could make them all and sell them all, they would. its a business to make sales. thats what they want to do. make what sells and is profitable. sure theyre doing the best they can with budget and labor and materials they have and can get.

I do agree I often can't find combo of materials and setup I want exactly or often, but there are so many choices. I just accept my picks aren't always gonna happen or exist.

I get that, but I always find myself wondering why not finally offer this pattern in that popular cover before releasing that shortlived new option.

I'll bet theres only a handful of popular covers and handful of patterns that need attention though.

I also wish that Case would make most of their patterns available in CV and TruSharp. I know that both of them take, and hold an edge equally well, but I prefer the CV for the patina... to me it just shows that a knife is used and valued. A stainless knife... you just don't know. The knife could be a safe queen dropped in the pocket for "show"...
but, show me a knife with a lot of patina, and you usually are looking at a well used and appreciated tool....

perhaps I'm "over-romanticizing" it.... but I just prefer to see tools that are actually used. 👍

I feel the same way, but it also just looks better than a mirrored stainless blade.

I ground finish is much better, but patina always looks better.
It contrasts well with many more organic colors of bone too.
