Case!
I bought a Queen country cousin in D2 and it arrived dull and was a bear to sharpen. Also like said, the Case has a nicer feel in the hand. You can get a small Case yellow CV sodbuster from Smoky Mountain Knifeworks for just about 20 bucks.
I preffer the CV over D2 for the ease of sharpening. I know D2 will hold an edge longer, but its not worth it to me because sooner or later that D2 blade will go dull on me. And Murphys law will let it loose its edge when away from home. I carry a little flat diamond hone in my wallet, and I like a knife I can resharpen anyplace in just a few moments with that little hone.
CV is still as good as most steels out there, and better than some. It will get you through the day just fine, is easy to maintain. And Case has a service department with a very nice lady named Shirley who will see that any problem with your Case gets fixed.
May I make a sugestion?
If you want to try a soddie to see if you like the pattern, try a Klass Brown mule. Some of us who have them love them, they are inexpencive, have very nice wood handles that can buffed and finished with tung oil or linseed il, have thin carbon steel blades that get scary sharp. And if you find out you don't like soddies, you're only out 7.99 or so. And if you find out you love soddies, then you have one of the nicest honest work knives out there.
