Case peanut

Some folks like that CV is non-stainless and that it will discolor over time.

Other folks like that Case heat treats their CV to a higher Rockwell hardness than Tru-Sharp stainless. This gives CV better edge retention.

Call us purists, but many of us here in the traditional forum prefer the character of carbon steel as it patinas. It will darken and grey over time and use.

If you like shiney blades then stainless would be more for you. Just a personal preference.

Why would it be better for me to get one in CV steel as opposed to SS steal?
Matter of personal preference. I own and carry Case knives with both types of steel. I'm not very picky about the steel. Both types cut what I want to cut, and I can sharpen both to the same level of sharpness.

I dislike the heavy patina look on my knives so I occasionally polish the CV steel to keep them relatively free of it, though I am not a fanatic about keeping them spotlessly shiny. I also give them a little spritz of oil once in a while. I find the SS to be a bit lower maintenance.

You do what you want, but the cool kids are all about the patina. I am an uncool kid.

Why can't I share a picture? I need help collecting info on a old fixed blade clauss knife

The best lookin' peanut I ever saw was ~P's little blue Case with the beautiful cut swedge. Maybe she'll post a pic of it again for this thread.
