Will welcome any feedback regarding current quality of Case pockets knives. The "talk" or snap sound when closing seems to be more moderate than say some of the German ones made in 60s and 70s ... Is this on purpose? You can spend whatever you want these days as pocket knives are like jewelry (cell phones?).. But scale material aside... it comes down to steel in blade(s), how sharp it stays, how easy/hard to resharpen, etc., and, my bigger question is about the "talk." Does "talk" all by itself distinguish how well /poorly the knife was made? Welcome any views. Thanks.

ellemsd,

Yo,
Hey I just completed my Amazon review the other night and it says it all and I may as well just copy it here. Sorry it may be more than you asked for but better than too little.

Cheers

This is one of the most "Classic" knives Case makes. For my first Trapper I could only picture it in old school classic stag handle sides. Some stag creeps me out but Case did a great job with my knife. It is even nicer looking than the one in the photo here. Several shades of tan and warm brown, some white and some black. Beautiful ! I am very pleased with the look and finish of the stag and the rest of the knife is Sooooooo nice. Very nicely polished and the spring tension is just the way I like it; firm but doesn't rip my finger nails up opening it.

The edge grind (sharpening) is surprisingly effective. With most basic factory made knives I use it a time or two, cuss and reach for my sharpening stones. With this Case Trapper I have not sharpened it yet, have used the heck out of it and only one blade is showing signs that it would like a touch up. The grind is fairly coarse but it just keeps cutting and cutting like a Big O' Dog.

I couldn't be more pleased with this knife. Thank you Case . . . keep up the good work !
PS: it isn't too heavy in the pocket but you sure know it's there. I bought the Trapper specific belt pouch when I bought this knife and I recommend it. The pouch is super inexpensive (I have paid twice as much for factory belt pouches) and the stamping and color are well done with nice brown/green patinaed bronze looking snap and stitching reinforcing rivets. The down side is the leather doesn't smell like leather but has a stronger petroleum smell but it is an excellent pouch and kind of necessary with a knife this big. By the way it is most definitely real leather.

I purchased a couple Case knives several years back. I'm very impressed. "Snap" and opening stiffness is several points down from your typical GEC type knife, which I actually like a lot. (Trying to get the bottle opener out on my GEC EO Jack is a beeyotch). Still a bit springier than your average SAK, though. Perfect middle ground, IMO.

And the Swayback Jack in CV is just amazing.

goodeyesniper,

You would have to show a photo of that one . . . I had just about gotten over my profound sense of loss and deprivation by not being able to find one of those to buy and settled for the SS.

Now I'm all jealous and stuff. :grumpy:

:)

Nah I'm pretty happy with my SS

And I can dream about the day I find one like yours for sale.
