Case quality

A friend gifted me with a chestnut bone pocket worn Jr sodbuster (he said it was disappointingly small.) It had the ugliest jumping on the pile side that I had ever seen. But the blade was ok and boy, it was sharp!

Guess it’s impossible to discuss quality without mentioning value. I accept the argument that case has value . Perhaps more so than Gec . It does what a knife is supposed to do for less money. I pay more for tighter construction , pinned shields and lower production numbers. Details I value and that I’m willing to pay more for.
I’m nostalgic for the days when we could trust a brand to deliver high quality products. We accept less and get it .
I appreciate gec attempt in bringing back some quality standards. Doesn’t mean I think they’re prefect . They definitely need to improve on they’re walk and talk . The move to weaker pulls was a mistake in my opinion.

Well said. 🤠

I bought my first Case this month. A Copperhead in Amber jigged bone with CV blades. It's the first one that I liked the size and frame shape enough to pull the trigger on. It has gaps in the spine and the blades aren't centered. Everything thing else is tight and spot on, smooth action with a middle of the road pull. Theses issues don't affect the function of the tool, would I prefer they were not there? Yes, however the tool does what is supposed to do. It's fairly nice looking as well. I cleaned up the edge (a little toothy for my liking) and it sliced the day lights out of a tomato last night. Case makes a good tool, GEC makes a really good tool, sometimes a great one, and sometimes just a good one as well.

It is a two folded situation in my opinion. As stated before they will make to the quality that we allow them to make and the company is trying to manage cost. What extra cost goes into making the perfect knife? Is management willing to pay that cost? Some customers are, some aren't.

For me Case has been just like Winchester and Ford (two of my other favorite 'repeat purchase' brands). I've had some terrific ones right off the bat, and then some problematic ones, but always the companies involved have gotten things straightened out for me, enough so that I keep returning. I even spent more money with Ford and Winchester than I have with Case - but I own a LOT more Case products than the other two combined! Merry Christmas Porch dwellers! OH

And like anything else, be it auto, motorcycles, bicycles, wine, scotch, watches, high end stereo gear, etc., the law of diminishing returns applies. Most of us eventually reach a point where continued improvement simply isn't worth the cost.

Been happy with all my current CASE purchases, maybe two dozen in last 4 months. Had one issue I decided wasn't worth my time sending back, got basket weave CF set, one of them had markings on scale. Figured it added uniqueness

Old Hunter Old Hunter The non American's cliche is that most things are bigger in the US. That pick-up looks like the size of a BATTLESHIP :D:cool:

All I can say is, the appeal of CASE reaches far beyond the confines of the USA. I don't mean I'm an uncritical fanboy of CASE far from it, but the knives are atmospheric and for the most part, remarkable value and quality.

A perfect example arrived today . Case knocked this one out of the park with a centered blade , no gaps in the back strap with wonderful walk and talk with no blade play. Topped with some beautiful saw cut bone. I think case was listening and said here you go boys and girls how do like me now!!
Thank you Case for this absolutely stunning knife with craftsmanship second to none .

Bruce - Is that a Model 88 Winchester?

That's what it looks like to me, Ed... I had one in .243 for a while... if it had been the .308 version, I'd still have it. Those are really nice rifles, as are their semi-auto counterparts, the Model 100's....

TheFactor TheFactor - man, you have had some year collecting beautifully handled Case Knives!

Modoc ED Modoc ED - yes Ed, that is a 1963 built Winchester Model 88 chambered for the 308 WIN. My long time favorite deer hunting rifle, killed some nice bucks with it over the years.
