Case Red Stag

This one was an exclusive offered by Booker Hardware Cutlery. It's advertised as "Red Prime Stag". Nice gnarly stag on this one.

Beauty Gary!

Charlie, here is an example of extreme fat stag, purchased in my less educated days.

Nice damascus, and I prefer thick handles, but this one is over the top.
Check out the bird's eye view!

Nice Booker, Gary!
Jeff, I agree those blades are cool looking! They got quite a color definition in the Damascus. But that knife has to stop eating at McDonalds!!:D
Noticing how round the handles are across the short dimension, if they thinned the stag at the back, it would have wound up too narrow for the knife, and still been fat!!

Those fat stag knives were a deservedly short fashion statement, I guess, but people who use knives, gouges, files, gravers, screwdrivers and chisels in a shop would not think them out of line. As collectors we quite often, I believe, put form over function (which is fine, as far as it goes; but there are other realities as well).

Thank you for that Charlie, and yet to an untrained eye such as mine, I tend to like either, but this all comes with experience, and I can clearly see the difference that you have pointed out, and do agree that the fit and look of the top knife wins hands down.
Once again Charlie - thank you

Good point. When my hands are feeling a bit arthritic, bigger handles make life easier. But since "fat Stag" is out of fashion -
(and I've been known to be pretty fashionable!!)-

I'll stick with slim, Sheffield-influenced Stag!

I am totally at a loss for words on that one. If "fat stag" is so usable and in fashion, why not "fat wood", "fat bone" or "fat derlin"?

Charlie, is that your version of "Chopsticks" ?
Greg

Not very musical, but I use 'em when eating Tyrannosaurus, Greg. Trying to stay green; just natural foods within 100 miles of Canada. . . . . . .Heck, I even burn 'em in my truck - - -WAIT - - -so do YOU!!!

Charlie, that Case stockman is a knockout!!!! Almost unimaginable even. Thanks for the thread. I am a fan of red stag, but don't own any. I am not, however, a fan of blue stag.
