I'm not sure how much interest there is in this pattern, however I noticed tonight while searching a dealers website that the seahorse whittler is going back into production, with a release date showing in October. An interesting handle option that I don't think I've seen before from Case is jigged buffalo horn. All of the knives shown are stainless, I wonder if they'll finally bring out a CV version in the near future? Does anyone carry one on a regular basis?

I really like the Seahorse Whittler. If they make one in Buf horn Ill definitely get one.

The only one I have seen was a bright orange and didnt lock up very well so I passed on it. I do like the pattern though.

Seahorse is one of my favorites! I would love a CV model but like Woodrow says, Case just doesnt seem to want to hear that CV is popular.

I carry an old JDC with ivory scales fairly often; it's one of my favorite knives. But two pen blades is overkill, and the last couple Case I looked at had full width main blades. They need to releif grind the Wharncliff down so it's thinner to make this a really good knife.

I love the shape of the handle, and I'm one of the few who prefers the stainless steel (boy, do those things take an edge!), but I find that I have an aversion reaction to pen blades. I can see maybe having one. I'm not a fan, but OK. TWO? That's just sick and wrong. :)

Me, I love the Wharncliffe, but would prefer the other blades be a small clip (or something with a bit of belly to it) and a coping blade, I think. Maybe a small sheepsfoot.

Well, as a whittler, the small pens were used for detail work. I remember seeing an old old article about this lady who was a master whittler who created incredible stuff like detailed stage coaches etc by whittling and her knives had some very well used pen blades on them. She literally wore the knives out.

It is a nice pattern, I've admired it from afar but not got round to getting one. They're not cheap to buy and I too would like alternative blades. A small Clip, Sheepfoot/Coping or even CASE's own modified Pen as seen on the Small Texas Jack and some Medium Stockman. Don't mind stainless but don't favour any garish handles that CASE sometimes opts for.

I agree completely. So I changed mine into the configuration you describe. (I will post pics later).

It's not hard. You can do it easy if you have a vise and a good file, then polish with wet or dry sandpaper and a strop.

I usually use a 4x36 belt sander with 80 grit to start, and then finer grits to finish. I have done it with just a file though - (I'm working on a magazine article on knife mods) - and have tried a lot of knives with the file. The only one in my collection that the file won't touch is a Chinese Marbles/Rough Rider TL - 29 knockoff. All the rest - Queen 1095, Case stainless and CV, Boker, etc., filed just fine.

If you want a knife to work for you, modify it until it does.

Girly not, they're more funky! But CASE does have some spectacular horrors in its handle arsenal:eek:

Thanks, W

True, they need to go back to more traditional themes but Im guessing they sell a lot of knives still!

I bought two of the seahorse whittlers when (removed non BF dealer reference) had them on their EOM sales for decent discounts. I have one of the Case traditional whittler pattern acquired the same way as I recall.

Yes you are right.

Mr Chips that's an excellent improvement! CASE need to take note too.

Thanks, Will

No CV but here's one in Damascus (not mine, this one is at my local dealer's shop. He has a lot of Seahorses.)

The story of my life....I had one of those and sold it a while back. Cool knife...had to sell it! I like that you can pinch open the wharny blade. Nice size also.....dang why did i get rid of it???

I didn't realize Case had quit making them.

They have started making them again. They were put in "The Vault" to dry up supply for a while and now they are coming out of the Vault.
