Case Seahorse Whittler

I didn't realize that some(?) prior seahorse whittlers had 2 pen blades as AkaDave2 has shown, that would definitely be a deal-breaker for me. All the new knives I've seen so far have Wharncliffe, Pen, and Coping configuration. Mr Chips that Autumn bone(?) modified knife is nice. Too bad we prolly won't see this knife in Chestnut bone, that would be perfect imho.

Here is mine. It has some pretty mismatched covers, so one of these days I pan on a dye job for it.

Those with 2 long pen blades were from the "Case Classics" series, commissioned by James Parker under rights he obtained from Case, but not necessarily made by Case. Some were made by Queen. akadave's knife is one of the Queen-made versions.

I have 2 of the Yellow Bone versions too, made by Queen. I like them better than Case offerings.

No CV but here's one in Damascus (not mine, this one is at my local dealer's shop. He has a lot of Seahorses.)

Is that what Case is now calling "hammered steel?" If so, I see one in antique bone that I'm very interested in.

Nevermind, I dug around and no, it isn't. That Yellowhorse hammered steel Seahorse is a different animal entirely.

my one and only seahorse, love the pattern though i dont carry it much, if they made a CV thatd see some carry time
mines a 2003

Very nice, that one. Similar to the one I've got, which I acquired from Gus (Bastid) in a GAW recently. The Queen-made Case Classics from the mid-90s are a whole different animal, with an entirely different feel to them. Nice long wharncliffe main, compared to the overall frame length. And, although folks likely tire of hearing me say this, Queen's finish just has a nicer feel to it. More rounded edges, generally a more cohesive entity overall. Feels like "more than the sum of the parts," if that makes any sense, while Case's builds feel more like flat slabs stacked together with the sharp corners knocked off.

So, if you can find any of the Queen-made Case Classic contract knives, they make a nice alternative to the Case IMO.

Or skip the tedious selection of a "Good One" and get a GEC Geppetto :D

Although I wish they would slim down the frame. It is used for other knives like the Hound Tooth and Dog Leg.
