Just picked up a couple yesterday. I got a Seahorse whittler in a dark orange looking scale that I can't remember the name for, and I also picked up a large Gunstock C. Platts and Sons in an autumn bone, I think. I really like the Gunstock knives.

I watch the Knives Live tv program and I also watch the other Knives tv program. The one where the majority of the knives are cheaper ones, not Knives Live, has gotten me mixed up a little with naming handle materials, as they seem to have a new name every night I tune them in.

At any rate I buy the Case knives locally from a store that sells them for a reasonable amount. In fact it is usualy less than the internet stores, and I don't have to pay for shipping. The only problem is they do not have the entire pattern line of Case knives.

However I do have a question. I have been tempted to but the large Copperlock in black bone with the red Ruger inlay. They have one and it is selling for $75.00. Is that a good buy? Can't seem to find one online anywhere.

Anyway, there you have it. I talked earlier in the year about going for some slippies instead of all the "Tactical" style knives I had been getting and I have to say that the slipjoints are really a nice change for me!:D:thumbup:

All the Rugers are going to be a little higher. You'll see the same with Case John Deere, Ducks Unlimited, etc. Your paying for a name really. A normal large Copperlock runs $55-$65. Of course that pattern is in the Case vault now. You've still got two and a half years before they re-release that pattern. Your best bet would be a local gun and knife show. I still see a lot of them there. And alway check the mom and pop hardware stores. Ebay has a few every now and then too. Also check AllAboutPocketKnives.com

Cutter, I think that's a reasonable price to pay, you get to look the knife over and be sure you like it.. It's the luck of the draw to get a good one if you buy online.. Those knives are unique, and good ones to have.... Just my opinion....

I agree, any time I get to handle a knife before I pay is a plus. Buying local is another + for me. Help encourage that store to carry Case is a good thing, there is getting to be fewer & fewer that do. And he ain't makein a killin on ya! :D

Been carrying the Seahorse whittler for the past few days and have had oppurtunity to use it everyday. Mostly mundane tasks, sharpening pencils, cutting cord, opening mail, etc. & etc., and it does all these jobs with ease. I was afraid that the 4.0" oal would let the knife lay in my pocket and print a pretty visible outline, but I've been puttin it in with the large bolster at the bottom of my pocket, and so far it does a great job of staying upright. Man those little blades are very thin and they slice like a little scapel, especially since I tuned them up on my Sharpmaker.:thumbup: Had planned to carry the large Gunstock, but it may be a while now before it gets any pocket time. Btw, figured out the color of the bone on the whittler, it is Autumn Orange, and the Gunstock is walnut, not wood, but in color.
