Case Small Texas Jack or Victorinox Pioneer

Those two would complement each other very well, and while one is a great pocket knife, the other one is a lot more..tough choice to pick just one, but i'll go with the texas jack, provided i have some other stuff in my wallet and keychain...

I have several Vics, but no Pioneer. The Case 6232 is one of my top 3 or 4 favorites. I believe that is the same model as what is now called the small Texas jack.

The Jack Knife, is a grand general use pattern, very minimalistic in it's approach. Case has several good Jack's, in fact my first Case knife was a 220 in synthetic black, it was toted for several years, performing every tasks I asked, and withstanding much abuse. Alox Victorinox knives are sturdy, nostalgic looking knives in general, I like the Cadet myself, and haven't had a pioneer, but I like the looks of the Pioneer, seeing as it has an awl. I say get both eventually, as to which one to get first, I'd say the Pioneer, Victorinox in Alox, aren't super popular compared to their plastic handled counterparts, and I feel like they may be at risk to be discontinued, but I'm sorta paranoid like that, and afraid that anything, in current production, that's old school, is destined to be discontinued, Case on he other hand is a widely popular brand, and Jack knives, are pretty common, and popular.

My vote would be for the Case Jack if you can get an older one from the 70's. If it were new vs. new it I would go with the Vic. You could always go with a rough rider jack and save some serious cash with the same quality.

What's better apples or oranges?

If you do not have anything to add but that then why waste your time posting? Sure these knives are completely different but they serve the same purpose and would be a tough choice if you could only own one. I personally dont like pen blades and can get by with a solo, just getting an Alox farmer for Fathers day and being very pleased with it I really have no problem suggesting the pioneer

Size is similar. Weight is similar. If it were a CV texas jack, I think I would pick that. Between a Tru-sharp and the Vic? I'd go Vic.

For me it would have to be the SwayBack Jack in Pearl & a Pearl ALOX SAK as they just seem to go together like Brother &
Sister ~~ well -- more or less.!**** LOL

It really depends on what you need/want it for. The Texas Jack is a great looking traditional that has some nice thin slicing blades. I would probably pick it over the Pioneer.

Unless...... I needed to open a beer.

Both are great knives, both have some mojo, but I think the TJ has a little more while the Pioneer has more tools.

I own, both and would have to agree that they are two different animals. Depending on what tasks you expect to preform with either knife, that would determine which one to carry. Vic knives are more like multitools to me. I think the texas jack is certainly more traditional in look and feel, especially with cv blades. With that being said though, my choice would be the Vic pioneer. I find myself carrying it more so than any other knife I own, and it often accompanies my other knives when I'm carrying something different. There's just so much functionality in such a small package. You would be surprised at just how often you use all the tools in the pioneer.

On an aesthetics stand-point I would certainly choose the Case. If you don't think thats important, ask yourself how many times you pull it out of your pocket to look at. :D
