Ok here goes, I just picked up a unused Case centennial knife. I personally just liked the pattern and size, but not overly concerned about its "collector value". As I only have one knife from an much larger series that I have no interest in trying to complete. But I wanted to post a poll and get others opinions on such finds. Thanks for participating :)

Mini copperlock along side just for a fun photo

Personally I'd probably keep it as is, especially if it came with the original packaging. Of course, that's coming from someone that has carried and used a number of special and collaboration knives.

Alternatively you could put it in a slip sheath and carry and use it gently once in awhile. Most of us knife nuts carry more than one at a time anyway.

Whatever you decide to do, nice find!

I personally am just going to carry it, as I didn't get a box or paperwork that goes with it. Seems to me special edition sets only hold their value as long as its the entire set. I dont have the desire or patience to try and track down the 99 others of set 215 lol. Not to mention that there are several other cover options that are also set "215".

To me... The value of a knife is in how it makes me feel.
If it feels like a good "user", I use it no matter the value because that's how the knife speaks to me.
Others make me feel good because of their pristine beauty, so I keep them new or use them lightly.

I have a couple of swayback jacks in SS :( that I really like... one in crimson bone, which, to my eye is the prettiest red bone Case has done, and one in blue bone. They are both a really limited release... each of them is a "1 of 3000" They are, however, beautifully made and finished... equal to any of the GEC's I've seen.
I carry and use them both.. they are just about the perfect watch pocket knife.

Those are nice! That crimson bone looks almost equal to the red they used in the 70's:cool::thumbsup:

This one was cheap from the online dealer (or I wouldn't have it). I don't think it will ever make me rich.

I like that color yellow... I just wish Case had put a little dark in it to emphasize the jigging.. They also made a swayback jack in that color bone, like the two I have, but I haven't found one of those I can afford, yet...

Use it on a job site for a couple of weeks and post an update pic!
Using it and maintaining it will transform it from a sort-of-interesting thing which sits in a drawer into an object which evokes a sense of the care and dedication to work well done displayed by its owner (yes, YOU).
