I have a number of Case knives, and some I've carried a quite a bit. But this one i picked up just because it's weird. It's the only single bladed Congress that I've ever seen from Case, or pretty much any other maker. I don't really like it, the blade angle is very awkward, but it shows that case could make an Irish Congress if they wanted to. Supposedly they did 70 years ago.

Well the big hunter was introduced to a pot of simmering rit, a mix of dark chocolate brown and red. And I couldn't be happier with the results! hornetguy hornetguy your crimson swayback swayed me in favor of the re-dye. However I got distracted putting clothes in the dryer and went a tad longer and darker than I had planned. However I ended up almost exactly matching the covers on my 70's Case one arm barlow, a knife who's covers are a favorite of mine! Pics tomorrow when I have better outdoor lighting :D:thumbsup::thumbsup: happy accident

I think the joy of these knives is in carrying and using them. I had a dealer at a knife show tell me that I shouldn't be carrying my 2013 Case XX Select Wharncliffe mini trapper (1 of 250, Winterbottom jigged brick red bone, nickel silver liners and pins). Nuts to that! It's one of my favorites and it gives me great pleasure to carry it. Same for my vintage stag mini copperhead (1 of 500). I have a Schatt and Morgan Hawbaker muskrat in fire oak bone that is 1 of 100 (400 total in the series with four different bone covers) that I was tempted to leave alone but finally broke down and sharpened it. It's too pretty not to carry and use.
The only one I've "oiled and put away" is my "spare" Case jigged chestnut bone swayback jack (2009). Not even sure why I bought it. I found one in a hardware store and then a few weeks later found an identical second one in a different hardware store. Knowing how popular they are I guess I figured I'd better save it for posterity or something. :D

Man.... that turned out really nice! Do you have to let the dye set up for any length of time, or just go ahead and use it? Seems like there'd be some bleed out if it didn't dry/cure enough?
Once I took it out of the dye I immediately ran cool water over it. Other than that I just wipe it with a old washcloth to dry. Left it on the counter overnight on a paper towel in a paper plate. Other than a little that seeps out of the joint I didn't see any bleeding out

Whatever I prefer to do with a limited edition knife should not be construed as a recommendation of what anyone else should do. They own their knife and should do with it whatever gives them the greatest pleasure and satisfaction.

This is a single blade limited edition (1/3000) doctor's knife, which is a user. The blade etching is still there, but with continued use will fade away entirely. It is a delightful knife to use. The blade is hollow ground, so it is very easy to sharpen. The walk and talk as well as the fit and finish are as close to perfection as I have encountered in any knife. It is only slightly smaller than a slimline trapper.

A lot of people assume that because a knife is etched for example, 1 of 3000 that 3000 of the knives were made. That may have been the plan when envisioned by the manufacture at the start of production, but circumstances during the run may have called for stopping production early and in fact maybe only 200 or maybe only 1000 of the knives were produced.

I've been carrying this one off and on lately. I like that there are no markings on the knife to identify it as a "Quality Test Run". The Teal bone and the COA are the only identifiers. Well, I guess the 2008 stamp is an identifier too considering the 63046 wasn't released to the general public until 2009.

When I show it to people I can announce its "Limited" status or I can let that be my own little secret.
