Case steel?

Case uses two types of steel: "Tru-Sharp surgical" stainless steel and "chrome vandium" steel. Does anyone know exactly what these are?

Sorry, Bernie, but I don't know, but if I had to guess, I would say that they are using either a form of 400 series steel, now which version, beats the heck out of me. Their home page says nothing. You should maybe call them and could tell you. Chances are they are using a Japanese made steel of good quality(I would Hope anyway). Good Luck. If you find out post it, I'm always interested in knowing about what steel some companies use.

OK, that was easy. I just emailed Case directly and they emailed me back right away. Per Case: their "Tru-Sharp surgical" stainless steel is "420HC" (just like Buck) and their "chrome vandium" is 1095. The funny thing is that, according to several steel charts that I checked, 1095 has neither chrome nor vandium in it. Interesting . . .
