Case Swayback Jack - what do you think?

My SBJ is the Chestnut Bone CV variety and it has no problems at all. The main issue is that it was too pretty to carry so right now it's just sitting in its box while I carry other, less attractive ones. Silly, eh?

I have no opinion on the knife, as I don't have one.

But I do have an opinion:
Happy Anniversary!
May you both live and love a long long time.

The SBJ is a classic design and a great EDC. I had the SB Gent (one blade) with stag and damasteel which I am sorry I've sold. It was perfect in all aspects. I don't know about Case current quality as I prefer their old ones, but I think that if you are able to check the knife in-hand first than don't hesitate.

Andi,
congratulations for your anniversary. As for the knife, I own one, I like it veru much, and carry it often. And, from what I've heard and seen, it's probably the best bet among Case lineup to be bought unseen...so I say go for it :)

Happy Anniversary Andi!

The SBJ in chestnut bone is one of the nicest production Case knives I own. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Cheers,
Griff

Ok, first, how many wonderful years have you been married? Are you two rookies or wiley old vets? Second, happy anniversary!

Now to the real issue...the SBJ! I had one and liked the quality of the knife. The blade is also very cool IMO. The issue I had with it was the length of the knife. I'd like one a bit larger or longer. Schatt and Morgan makes a swayback single blade that I think is a little longer. I'm looking for one at the right price. You might like that as well. Have a great one.

Humppa,

Congratulations!

Case's Swayback jack is a fine knife, with very good weight-per-proportions in hand. If you decide to get one, I think you'll find that the extra blade (and thus, handle width) makes a very nice difference in this pattern.

All that said, there's always a chance you'll receive one with bone that isn't as pleasingly dyed, blade rub, etc. (though if you follow that link you'll see that the latter might not be as big an issue for you? ;)). Sadly, they're out there.

Have fun choosing, and good luck with whatever you choose. :)

Thanks for the kind and nice words, fellows :) Being honest, we are not married yet, but enganged for four years now - we just don´t have the bucks to marry (too many nice knives out there :p :D ;) ) - I don´t know if can be called anniversary in any way - but for me (and her) it is the anniversary day.

I finally made my decision on the SBJ - as all of these great comments here. I carried my SBG today and it was just too skinny and slim in hand as well as in pocket. In pocket it doesn´t disturb me, but in hand it´s really not my beer. So I think the Chestnut Bone CV it will be... :D

Happy Anniversary !

I'm very happy with mine. I haven't heard anything bad about them, and think most everyone loves theirs.

I don't want to drive you crazy but there's a SBJ in the custom for sale area that looks pretty sweet!

I love my Case "pocket worn" SBJ, too! It's a great looking little knife...and the blade shapes and sizes are about perfect for me.

I like the design a lot. I have 5-6 different Case models now and used my first CV one for a long time as the regular carry. I may have to start doing that again; it's a very handy little knife.

'Sorry I am late to the party.

Happy anniversary day. I had a lot of those with my wife before our 50 year marriage.

I never had owned or used (to my knowledge) a Case knife prior to joining BF and finding the traditionals.

There was such a strong feeling for the Bose family that I asked to get on Tony's list. His answer that he was not taking orders was very polite. It had not occurred to me to iinquire about price.

My first T Bose Stamped Case knife was a sowbelly. A wonderful knife. I heartily agree with Aaron and others that the Bose Stamped Case knives are of uniformlly excellent quality F&F for a production knife.

Use yours in good health.

Thanks for the advice, Randy - but fortunatelly I ordered the Case SBJ before I was reading your post. ;) That would have really driven me crazy :D

Eismann - it really seems you like the swayback design pretty much generally.

Thanks to all of you guys for the advices and the pics... I can hardly wait until the knife arrives.

It's is without a doubt the nicest case I've owned (only 3) and my favorite knife purchase of the last two years. It's rode in my pocket for the last 18 or so months and never let me down. The fit on mine is great, the scales are beautiful and made in the USA at around 55 bucks I think it's a strong contender for best bang for the buck American made knife - period.

Both the stainless and cv versions have pleased me a great deal.

The pull is surprisingly robust compared with most CASE knives, a future alternative could be GEC's Hound's Tooth with the Wharncliffe option.

I too love my SBJ. In order to make one a pure user I bought a back-up :) I also have one in Damascus/Stag that is fun to use from time to time.
