Found this knife at a local antique store that I visit often. The tang stamp looks strange to me, as it is too spread out. The closest I can come on the tang stamp charts I have is a 1989 Stockman or Gunstock Stockman. What is the difference between the Stockman and Gunstock Stockman? I cleaned it up lightly and all blades are tight with good snap. As you can see, is missing the shield. Will probably contact Case to see if they have a shield for it. All opinions appreciated. Thanks.

I "think" the difference is the Gunstock stockman looks similar to a dog leg jack.
Unquestionably, someone with both stockmans will post a comparison photo.

There are several "medium stockman" patterns that Case uses. Yours is the '032 version with the squared bolsters, compared to the '18 version with rounded bolsters. The same frame is used for the Small Texas Jack / Medium Jack. I have not seen it called a Gunstock Stockman before but I can see why someone might use that term to distinguish between them.

Thanks so much for the replies. I have e mailed Case and asked about the shields.

Case has done a 'gunstock' pattern for a single-ended 2-blade jack configuration. I don't know if they've ever done a stockman with the same handle shape. But 'gunstock' is perfectly appropriate for the pattern as pictured below (photo from a dealer site on the web).
