Will, I wasn't claiming that the Tribal Lock would be a similar substitute for a Tear Drop! 
(Although I consider them both somewhat unusual patterns - that's maybe their only similarity.) You're absolutely right about the variety of traditionals. 
As for the allure of the Tribal Lock for me, spearpoint blades are probably my favorite, and it's not possible to have too much of a good thing, is it?
