Case Tested Jack, Worth Fixing?

Wow, thank you all so much! I knew there were alot of enthusiasts here but I never expected so many responses and such great information!

Nice knife. What's the length closed? I think the small blade was a pen blade.
It is just over 3 1/8" closed, and yes apparently a pen blade, not spey as I thought.

That bone is typical Greenbone, and a very nice example of it at that!
Thank you! There are so many types of bone I had no idea what to call it.

Thanks to Gevonovich, Modoc and Obsessed with Edges for your excellent information on the model, that was exactly what I was looking for!

Now for my end. I did indeed contact Case, I sent them an email with the photos attached and they responded (very quickly I might add) that they no longer made blades to fit this model and they would be unable to fix it (good call again Obsessed).

So, I would not even think of letting anyone but the factory touch this knife, I will take the advice of everyone here and reshape the pen blade and see what I can do to clean it up myself. I do all my own sharpening but this will be my first attempt at reshaping a blade, I guess it's already broken so what the hey!

No matter what he does, I hope he doesn't polish out those blades to a high gloss but leaves the natural aging now on the blades prominent
I must admit I was considering doing a polish on the blades, but after everyones comments on how beautful the knife is I will refrain.

Again thanks to EVERYONE who responed, ALL your comments are appreciated. I will take photos of my little project as I work on it and be assured I will post them up here when I am done.

Hey Tom,

I noticed you measured the length at 3-1/8" closed. Case had several very similar versions like this one, with some very subtle differences in closed length. The published length of the two models I referenced (6202 1/2, and the 6216 1/2) was at 3-3/8". This seemed to approximate the size in the pic of yours, with the knife alongside the ruler. In the same guides I looked at, the 6235 1/2 is listed at 3-1/4". There's another similar model listed at 3" too. So, what I'm getting at is, the exact size might also be critical in properly identifying your knife.

Having said all that, I still think you've got a beauty there. Whatever it happens to be, I hope you'll enjoy it. :)

Looks like Obsessed with Edges got the patterns covered based on the size.

Good man! You can always buy a new knife if you want shiny. But once all the original finish is buffed off an antique, it can't be made original again.

This is a great thread. Another option is looking on the bay for another "parts" knife with an intact blade and have a reputable knifemaker do a fix.In the meantime shape the blade and enjoy.

Nice knife you have guy. As mentioned earlier, I have a similar (if not the same) knife as yours. If you'd like, send me the knife and I can do the work for you. I have all the tools/machinery and you could tell me how you want the secondary to look like. If not, I'm sure others (and myself) would be glad to explain what to do.

And that explanation of how to modify the blade should be done via email or in the Maintenance subforum, please.

Ok, here is the exact closed length.

I make that as 3.360" which should make it a 3 3/8" model (3.375")

Never thought of doing that, great idea!

Thank you very much for the kind offer. I did look up your jack as referenced earlier and was thrilled to see it, Beautiful! I think however that I am going to attempt this myself, I have already perused many many threads here on bladeforums about grinding and reshaping blades and I think I can do it without making a mess of it.

Again thanks for everyones suggestions!

OK, good. To me, it still looks like it could be a 6216 1/2, based on the size and the location of the backspring pin (as well as all the other traits). I'm trying to find a certifiable pic of one on the web for comparison's sake. If I do find one, I'll post it here. The downside to searching auction sites and other places is, there's no guarantee that some of the 'examples' online are correctly identified, especially with the very close similarities between different models, and the fact that these early models weren't stamped with pattern numbers.
