Is anyone carrying one of these little fellows. It is advertised as smaller than a peanut at 2-3/8" closed. I am curious about these knives (because you can get them with a Wharncliffe secondary, a particular weakness of mine).

I see a lot of them on ebay, but have not seen one in person.

Ed

I bought one a few years back, and found it much to small for me.
Good looking knife though, and one with a warnie would be sweet if you want a knife that small.

These are great little knives, Ed. I too find the wharncliffe secondary much more useful than a spey blade. The Tiny Trapper is in Smooth Red Bone, and for comparison I included my Chestnut CV Peanut. I'm an average size guy with somewhat large hands (XL glove size) and I have no problem with the size of Peanuts or Tiny Trappers. YMMV. ;)

I've had three Tiny Trappers and the F & F has been excellent on them all! No half-stops on the TT's and blade pull has been smooth & easy on all of them. My pics do not do this Tiny Trapper justice - it is a beautiful little knife!

Confession: It used to ride quite frequently in the watch pocket of my jeans until the outlaws around this place got me hooked on the Peanut - you know who you are! ;)

I've seen and handled them, but agree with Ken. They are much too small. Now, I am a big Peanut fan, but the Peanut is just a hair bigger, and blades just that much better. It is designed better for a small knife then a tiny trapper. That's just my opinion, of course, but it was too small. Go handle one, though. You never know, it may work for you.

I have been interested in these for a while too. I must admit they don't have the mystique that the peanut has here on the traditionals forum, but that
wharncliff blade is sweet isn't it?

I haven't tried one, so I'm hesitant to add my thoughts. While I think it would be too small for me, having a full size wharncliffe and clip point blade is just a great combination. However, I don't want to detract from the spey blade though. I find it very useful for opening packages. Especially cereal boxes. I just zip the whole top of the box off and it's done in a flash. The short spey blade is much easier to handle for that job.

Ken, I guess that's what's kept me from pulling the trigger on one. Before I got one, I thought the peanut was too small, but I find it surprisingly useful. I'm thinking that the mini-trapper would be better for me. It's 3-1/2" closed. At 2-3/8" closed the tiny trapper is, well, tiny.

I think I'll wait until I can get my hands on one before I purchase. If it had a bail on it, it would make a really nice key chain knife.

There's a knife shop near me that is a Case dealer, and I looked at one there.

Now I love little pocket knives. I love peanuts. I love my Victorinox classic.

But there is a difference between a knife that was designed to be small, and a knife that is a shrunk down mini version of the bigger knife. Sometimes just shrinking a knife works, and sometimes it does not.

The peanut feels good in my hand. The tiny trapper did not. It felt just too small in some way. I'm a medium size 5 foot 9ish guy, and wear medium size gloves, it that's a clue. I love the size and feel of a J frame S&W, and a K frame feels a bit awkward untill I put a Tyler T-Grip adapter on it. A Berretta 92 is too fat and awkward for me to shoot comfortably with one hand, but a 1911or a Glock 17 fits me like a glove. I don't have any scientific reason the tiny trapper felt too small, after all it's only a little bit smaller than a peanut. But to me, the design did not feel good enough to buy. The tiny toothpick actually felt better.

Pocket knives are just like a pair of boots; a 900 dollar pair of Tony Lamas won't work as well as a pair of Red Wings if they don't fit right. And everyone is different.

Carl.

Keith, thanks for your photos. Maybe I'll give one a try.

I spent some time rounding up my little knives to try to get a feel for the size. I was thinking that the Gerber 200A Silver Knight was about the same size and I think I might be able to carry the Gerber (excpet that it is an only child and I want to preserve it).

No problem, Ed. Just for the heck of it, here's a Trapper ..... Mini trapper ..... Tiny trapper:

I won a single blade Tiny Trapper on ebay yesterday and am waiting to get it in hand to see how I like it. 61154 in Caribbean blue. I'm getting it to be a small secondary knife so I don't need the 2nd blade on it. If I like it, I might get on of the regular Tiny Trappers too. A Peanut is on the list but not yet...

That sounds a beautiful knife. Please, post some pictures here when you get it :)

Indeed!!! I'd like to see what that looks like as well.

Keith, thanks for the trio of trappers photo up there. That gives me perspective on both the tiny trapper and the mini trapper. I don't own either at this time so that photo is invaluable.

I have 1 but find it to small for my hands. I do really like it though. Its a rattle snake collector model. I'll try to add a photo soon.

I received my Tiny Trapper in Caribbean Blue (61154SS) last week and it really is tiny. Above it is a Peanut in Antique Bone (6120SS) and below it is a Mini Trapper in Chestnut Bone (6207CV). Between the Tiny Trapper and Peanut, I prefer the Peanut. It is only slightly bigger but that little bit really does make a difference. I've been carrying a larger slim trapper and was looking for a smaller secondary knife. I carry a Vic Classic or Manager on my keys so I already have a small blade when needed, I just don't want to take my keys out every time. The TT should have been perfect but I'll probably be carrying the Peanut instead.

A CV Peanut in either Red Bone or Yellow Derlin will probably be my next Case purchase.

The Mrs has a trapper nut that I think is similar in size. She has the mammoth ivory scales due in part to her fascination with prehistoric critters. She loves it but is now wanting to get something a bit bigger.:D

I *stole* my Wharncliffe and Stag Tiny Trapper of the 'Bay (3rd knife down, of course). Great bit of pocket jewelery.

I agree that the Tiny Trapper's too small for most hands. I have one in orange G-10. My 10 yr old now has it & it's a good size for her. I think the mini-Trapper (At 3.5") is an excellent size.

I just won one of those single blade mini trappers courtesy of Jason Baker's give away. I have decided that the mini trapper size is much more to my liking than the tiny trappr size.

I appreciate that comparison picture 2dead. It pretty much says it all. Thanks for posting. Zuchus, thank you for your picture as well. That's a sweet looking mini trapper you have there.
