Hey there everybody! For a while I've been wanting to make smaller replicas of the iconic Western 49 Bowie, one you could actually carry more easily. I did a couple of hidden tang versions and finally got around to a full tang.

The handle contours on this one are reminiscent of the sharper angles on the original. This one fought me all thru the build and has one significant flaw, spine side behind the guard as shown in the photo. I filled the gap with powdered turquoise but my loss is your gain, reflected in the discounted price.

Steel is 1/8” x 1 1/2” 8670 with professional BOS HT at 60/61. Hand sanded to 600 grit for a fine satin finish. The edge was about .012” before sharpening. Balance is on the plunge.

Dimensions: 10 5/8” OAL, tip to guard is 6 5/8”

The Brass guard is finished to 2000 grit and buffed. The handle is Chechem with G10 spacers, accented with genuine powdered turquoise and finished to 1200 grit, then oiled and waxed. The handle feels great in my average sized hand with some room to spare.

Thanks so much for looking and please feel free to ask anything here or via PM.

Back Story: In the early 80's or so my brother and I each got one and used them for years. Fast forward to the early 2000's and I'm going camping with 2 nephews and dabbling in knifemaking so when they were 10 or 12 years old I offered them each one of my knives. Well, one chose a decent knife I made and one chose the beat up old W49! He eventually got one of mine too but jeez!

Super cool John. I would love the smaller version you are considering. Straight back to my childhood in your top shelf knife and equally superb leather. I am going to get one of those from you someday, somehow if you decide to make some. As my wife says "You can't have too much fun!". She's the best.
