That whole handle is a replacement. Originally it would've had a flatter, squarer handle held on with compression/cutlery rivets. If it were mine, I'd scrap that whole handle, redo it with the proper rivet or re pin with brass or steel rod. You've got to like the knife too, as this is one of those time far exceeds value deals.
