Case XX Russlock: Pros and Cons

Planterz, good video ; I wish I had it years ago when I first got my russlock. :grumpy: I left my index finger across the knife when opening and underestimated the strength of the spring; did not thumb the blade far enough and it fell back onto said misplaced finger-not good.

Interesting video. My procedure is similar but simpler. When opening, I only use my thumb. I don't switch to the index finger in mid-open.

I just realized whose video I linked to. This guy was banned from Bladeforums for making racist remarks after relating a story where he was arrested for being overly aggressive to a person of color because that person was a person of color (while making racist remarks). To sum up, this guy is a piece of shit. The video does show the mechanics of the Russlock though. Just give it a thumbs down after watching it.

Huh, never heard about that. I recognize that name so I took the time to look this incident up, and he claims he was hacked. True? False? His account is still banned, though.

I had forgotten about his response. To paraphrase Mitch Hedberg, I used to drink a lot. I still do, but I used to too. I remember my anger and distaste when reading the original stuff posted more than I remember the aftermath. I'm inclined to believe him, that his account remains banned so the imposter can't post through it, and I recant on my previous statement about his character. My apologies.

The lock operates the same as the lock on the one hand 111mm SAKs, but with the lever instead of the hole. I'm not sure about it being considered a slip joint like the other Case knives. It's just called a Russlock, or whatever lock the knife uses, I think. I dunno.

The pros are that it's a Case knife with standard case quality. They are pocket worthy, fairly strong for being thin, cut like scalpels, come in every shape and the best part of a Case is, or traditional, is that each and every one is unique. One will never be the same as another and is personal.

The only con I can think of is that they hold value which might not be a bad thing. I say buy it if one really stands out to you, as it may never come around again. Definitely, wall worthy as well as carry worthy.

Here's a little info that I copied from a large Case dealer's website:

"The pattern was named after Case founder, J. Russell "Russ" Case. The pattern number (1953L) is a tribute to the year Russ Case passed away."

This thread inspired me to finally try one of these. I have the G10 model on the way. It's so goofy looking I just had to get it!

Pretty cool looking knife. I like the blade shape of the one in the vid. Reminds me of the Spydie JD Smith.

I like mine; in drop-point. Cute-homely, like a turkey-vulture chick. I have no problem getting an edge, but it's not going to hold it in heavy-duty use.

Walker style linerlocks are different, with no backspring and a detente. The Russlock is, essentially, the older style with both a backspacing and "tang blocking" lock (Schrade - and others - used similars locks on single-bladed folding hunters. GEC has used them, too.)
