I wanted to keep this in W&SS cause that's where I spend most of my time. I'm getting a new g shock and wanted to know what the people in W&SS wear or suggest? mudman, pathfinder or what??????

i have a pathfinder and its an alright watch. its got a whole wack of features that arent very accurate.

the compass doesnt seem to work right, altimeter works ok, barometer works great, and keeps time well (due to the atomic time setting).

i got it as a gift and like the fact that its solar powered. barometer is nice and helps predict weather trends. altimeter is ok when you calibrate it often. compass doesnt work for jack.

it has world time which is nice because i have family in another country. it has a countdown timer which is useful and a stop watch which sees alot of use. oh yeah it has 5 alarm clocks.

other than the crappy compass the casio pathfinder (pag-80 is the model i have i think) it is a great watch.

if you require something a bit more rigorous and dont need the extra features, i suggest getting the mudman.

Most of the Gs you find at Walmart are goofy thick on the wrist. The "retro" ones are a lot thinner but most all of them lack the tough solar and wave ceptor. My suggestion is the 25th anniv edition, the 5525 or whatever. It has the retro profile AND the wave ceptor, etc. Gold trimmings and even a "gold" LCD backdrop. Very nice G for around 65 bucks. Got mine on Amazon which is a smashingly wonderful place to score Gs. They routinely beat the crap outta anybody, both pricewise and free shipping wise. Take a look. I've learned that when it comes to Gs, not to go "all out". The simpler ones are most always a steal. The higher end of the G spectrum, the less you get for your dollar. And remember, these Gs have ZERO resale value (no matter what they originally sell for). So be SURE you're gonna be happy with what you order BEFORE you order it. Basically, you'll have to give it away if you're not happy with it. Seriously, these things hold value like used gym socks.

But they are tough. And tough is enough! :(

I have an atomic solar G-Shock - model 2688, I believe. Calibrates itself with the Colorado Springs atomic clock every morning, keeps a charge as long as it gets some occasional light. I don't use any of the other functions on it, but it's got a stop watch, time stamp feature, multiple alarms, and multiple time zone settings.

Currently im wearing the Casio G-shock DW-9052. Pretty basic no-nonsense g-shock. It got stopwatch, timer, 5 alarms and tells time. I wear this 24/7 and have had no problems with it so far.

Before that i used to wear a Suunto Vector which ive since sold, The Vector had altimeter, barometer, temparature and compass. Like another poster says the compass is crap, altimeter works ok but is only reliable if the weather conditions are stable (which they rarely are), and the barometer worked pretty good.

I was recently looking into getting another alti/baro/comp watch and did some research on the net...apparently, compared to Casio, Suunto has a rep for being more fragile but is more accurate in its readings. Newer Suuntos have some quality issues, so i decided to stick with Casio's Protrek/Pathfinder range when investing in a new watch.

But so far my G-shock is doing fine, so im sticking with it.

I wear the original design. I bought mine in '02 and all I've done over the years is replace the band and battery once. Still works great.

I always thought the added bulk of the later models was just for show. It didn't serve any other purpose so I never liked it.

One of my favourites for outdoors is a G-2300B. It is a very basic watch, but it does have the tough solar module. I added a Recta Clipper on the band. I also own a GW-6900, a classic design, not very bulky and equipped with a tough solar module and a wave ceptor module.

I picked up the solar/atomic Mudman about a year ago. It hasn't left my wrist since. It's not a small watch (but then I'm not a small guy ;-). It's amazingly comfortable. Has the best strap of any G I looked at and a great display.

Wound up getting S/A Gs for my wife, son and daughter as well. All from Amazon. As mentioned above, they do a nice job on pricing and selection. Watch them for sales.

They are rugged, dependable and very functional. These aren't jewelry, they're time keepers. And they do that spectacularly well, IMO.

I've heard sync'ing can be an issue for some locations (mostly in cities) but mine sync's fine every night.

I thought it might need significant light to stay charged but everyday wear keeps it fully charged.

The white ones tend to discolor but that probably isn't an issue for you. I need to find a way to "whiten" both the wife's and daughter's.

Find the one that displays everything you want to know regularly. Mine does and I can't tell you how long it's been since I pushed any of the buttons (except the backlight) on it. I have time/day/date/charge/sync status all on the main display.

I have the Sea Pathfinder and it is a good watch. As was said before most of the other features do not work very well. I had another pathfinder and the solar battery died. I tried to replace it and am now looking at the Orange Mudman as a replacement:o. DO NOT TRY to replace a battery in a GShock if you are not experienced with them. You will regret it.

Riseman for me. Has a barometer, altimeter, etc. I like watching the barometric pressure graph to have an idea of what the weather is going to do. I also really like the atomic feature that keeps the time accurate. Good stuff.

I have the Mudman Atomic/solar. I only wear it when I'm in the "great outdoors" as it's a chunky watch (I'm a big guy but have girly thin wrists), my day to day watch is a Seiko chrono.
The Mudman hasn't let me down yet. It's stood up to rain, saltwater, sweat etc with no visible effect to the band or time piece. I rarely use all the functions (Of which there are a plethora), but it has all I need and more.

I've got the AW-591. It's the analog/digital model and it's held up like a tank.

I have an older model "Alarm Chronograph",and wear it almost excusively. Much more than a much expensive watch I have. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some of the other Casio models, but it's been worn while scuba diving, manually cutting and splitting wood, and just all around wearing. Watch band and battery has been replaced. Unbeatable for the $ in MHO.

Same here! Great, tough watch!

G-shock wearer here for 2+ years. Still going strong. The 4 or 5 alarm function is very helpful, as is the time sync. Have yet to see the battery go into low even living here in the pacific north wet, do the solar charging works well.
