Casio Watch?

Tell me that I did the right thing. It's okay to lie if you must. I've been looking for a portable watch/barometers for a while now, and finally took the plunge. I looked at a ton of various watches and altimeters, including the offerings from Casio, Timex, High Gear and Suunto. All of them were just too darn freakin’ huge to ever think about wearing on my body. I’m also too much of a cheapskate to pay more than a hundred bucks.

I finally ended up ordering a Casio Pathfinder pat301l-3v. http://www.shoplite.com/pat301l-3v.htm The price was right, and it didn’t look like it was the size of a Frisbee.

If it has the features you are looking for you made the right choice. I don't think you will find s better "gadget" watch, at any price point, than Casio.

It's funny how you people think they're as big as frisbees...

Imagine how people look like in Japan and Hong Kong. These people love gadgets, but those overbuilt watches sure look ridiculous on our skinny little asian wrists. My high school class in Hong Kong looked like it came out of some sort of anime film, since everyone wore humongous G-Shocks, Seikos, and Citizens.

I can't even wear some of the large "normal" sized Seikos, like the SKX779, without looking like I have a sewer lid on my wrist. Oh the pain of having to wear a ladies sized Timex many years ago...

That watch appears to have a very good barometer graph, not all Casio's do. I bought a Marine Gear that had a barometer that I couldn't read and was inaccurate. I am a very big triple sensor fan, have several. You guys need to check out the very new triple sensor, normal size, and half the price of the old one. I have seen them as low as $120 on ebay. If you can catch last year's Casios when they have a model change, you can get some good deals. I paid $250 for a Triple Sensor a few years ago, but bought the aforementioned Marine Gear for $29, after that model was discontinued. Casio has so many models it is impossible to keep up.

I like the watch you have, I believe Casio has the best product out there for digital/gadget or just tough watches. If you live in Tornado Alley like I do, a barometer is a big deal to have with you. If I had the bucks, I would buy that same watch.

That makes me feel better. I kind of live by the barometer, but have never been able to find one that was small and portable enough. Even better if I can just stick it into my watch.

The barometer is a must for me when I'm hiking in the Adirondacks, as storms tend to hit you out of nowhere. A little advanced warning makes life a whole lot easier. The barometer is also my primary way of judging whether the fish will be biting on a certain day. Barometers rock.

Get you a aftermarket band with a compass and you have a fairly inexpensive package that does what a triple sensor will do. I just wanted to give you a heads up that these watches do go through batteries a little quicker than other watches. You can replace the battery (most of these with multi functions have two) yourself. There will be a plastic ring inside the bezel, and a rubber O-ring in the shape of the bezel. Be very careful removing both the plastic and the O-ring. Be very, very careful when replacing the bezel that the O-ring is in the proper place or you will crimp and break it when you screw down the bezel. If the rubber O-ring gets brittle or you crimp it, you have very little moisture protection.

Keep batteries in it and it will last you a long, long time.

Don't use Vaseline or any petroleum-based grease on rubber O-rings. Use only silicone grease -- you can get it in auto parts store labeled "tune-up grease."
