Catching a rat

I don't know how well it will work for rats, but putting little bits of brownie in the bait holder has pretty good success with mice.

Have you ever seen the rat itself, or just what it leaves behind? if you have seen it, I would get a pellet pistol (as long as they are legal to own where you live) to take care of it with...But you could still leave baited traps out; just make sure you find a place that you can tell the rat is going; usually along a wall...a blacklight will help with this (rodent urine glows in the dark, and they always leave urine footprints wherever they go)

I recently had a rat problem and called an exterminator. He recommended poison over traps. His reason? "You don't have to deal with cleaning up bodily fluids." I thought that was a good point.

The company I used said most of the time rats go outside the house to die. It is possible that they may die inside and stink up your house, but it is rare. They have odor absorbing bags they lay out in case that happens.
