Had a day off and my boys and I did a little catfishing, we did fairly well, not any real big ones, but a lot of pansized ones. Filleted them out and had a fish fry. Sorry I didnt take any pics of the filleting process. I did try a new technique of using an electric knife, did pretty good, I still prefer a nice sharp fillet knife.

Thats what I call a productive day:thumbup:
Nice Job!

Whats the fish on the top? I can't make it out from the angle.

Used several different things. Liver, whole and cut shad, shrimp and squid chunks.
The squid by far did the best, stayed on the hook longer and we caught several fish on the same chunk.

best catfish bait in the world is catfish. catch one, filet, put the rest in a vlender or something (I just beat it in an iron pot with a maul) and ... um... cover. let it stew in the sun for a day ... or two. mix with flour. freeze. NOT in your kitchen freezer.

Really.

Get a large pot.. Add some olive oil and choped onion.. fry untill the onion soft and slightly brown. Add some cut up potatos and fish.. then some salt and lots of black pepper a few bay leaves and cook on low heat untill the potatoes are done.. Enjoy, the meat falls of the bones and its great if you want to mix all kinds of fish in the same pot.. But never mix ocean fish and fresh water... For some reason never comes out good..

sounds like that would do well in a dutch oven!!!!

Nice catch!

Have you tried circle hooks on cats yet? They made a huge difference in my hook-ups on catfish.

That looks like it was a lot of fun! I think that size is the best for eating!

Where do you live? A couple varieties of cats and what is that at the top, a bass? My my in-laws live near the AL river and often have fish fries... good stuff.

If you got dutch oven that dish would come out good enough to fight over.. That the only way i would eat carp.. as the bones come right out. just dont be stingy with the black peppers. My dad told me that its an old Russian dish where one guy would bring a huge pot and all the fisherman would add what ever fish the catch that day.. That would be dinner by a camp fire.. So dont forget the potatos
