Cats... natural or de-clawed?

Declawing a cat is like guncontrol and knife laws are for us.

Most cats will claw destructively because of some stress in their life. Jake my orange cat insisted on working on the leather chair and was very destructive until Minew my grey striped female died of old age. The two cats didn't get along very well, and Minew would constantly beat him up.

However, after Minew's death Jake is the sole cat of this house, and he has not touched the furniture in the past 3 years after the other cat's passing.

I declawed my cat. She was destroying furniture. I could have given her to the humane society but chose to declaw her. 15 years later she's still going strong. She has not been outside (other than trips to Vet) in all that time. You couldn't do it to a cat that would ever go outside.

I won't have another cat, so I don't have to make that decision again, but our Vet didn't see anything objectionable to it.
