I haven't posted too much lately because I have been busy, but managed to get up to the Catskills for an overnighter. Here are some pictures from the trip.

Awesome! my favorite place on the planet! Is that iced-out trail in Mary's Glen? I've never been hiking up there in winter, but you be able to see forever from the Escarpment. Thanks for the pictures!

Not sure where Mary's Glen is so I would have to say its probably not there. It somewhere on the Escarpment trail. Unfortunately, I lost my good topographic map :( of the area so I had to navigate with a compass and a map that did not list trail names or colors, so I'm not really sure where anything was.

I saw the video you posted on youtube, very nice mate:

I just love the Catskill Mountains I've been going there for years.
Cooking breakfast on a hot rock looks pretty cool I would suppose bacon would be messy.

Always wanted to try to cook bannock or pizza on a hot rock like that. How long did you have to heat it?

That rock was real thin and the fire was very hot, I think I threw the egg on there after about 5 minutes.

We also heated rocks to sit on and rest our feet on to keep warm while sitting around the fire. Heated seats in the wilderness is such a luxury!

You'd be pissed though if that rock split half way cooking your egg :D

That picture of the fire and sparks shooting is awesome!

Andrew, That's a classic shot of North/South lakes, you sure do get some beautiful views from up there. I just got down off of North Mountain a few hours ago and worked up a badly needed get rid of some lard hike. North and South mountains are my favorite hiking spots, I have South mountain down to 9 min's from Kaaterskill falls to the top of the mountain, a great hike to get the old arteries pumping. Another trail you may want to try is Platte Clove to Mead Mountain, stopping to camp at Echo lake. There is a lean too, along the way that you may find me taking my afternoon nap in.

Glad you enjoyed the trip ! I don't think we have any white easter bunnies [snowshoe rabbit, varying hare] here in the southern Catskills Nice to see the photo.

Thanks for the trail suggestion. I'll keep my eye out for you next time i'm up there!

Before I moved to Thailand I lived in town of Catskill. Your photos make me homesick. Strangely there are areas of Chiang Mai mountains that resemble catskills.
