I just picked up a few of those WW2 quartermaster knives on Ebay (fairly cheap). I plan to use them as utility/hunting knives. Does anyone know the correct original sharpening angle for them?
I wouldn't much care what the original honing angle was if I planned on using them. I would reduce the angle to at most 15 degrees with some relief at a lower angle. Actually I have one which had considerable rust. I used a belt sander and polished the flats slightly and convexed the primary bevel. It now has the equivalent of about a 12 degree final edge.
