Cattleman's Folder?

Guyon,
Super collection of stock knives!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks very kindly for sharing them with us..:)

Nice collection of stockmans Guyon. Who made the far two knives on the right in the top row? If possible, please show us more of these. Thanks

Thanks. I've gotten a few more stockman since taking that collection picture. A couple of Eye Brands and a Moore Maker in buffalo. Looking for a Buck 301 in bone now.

Those two you ask about are both Schrade knives from the Cutlery Classics series. There were five of these knives in all, marked TM-1 through TM-5. They included the Lumberman, Rancher, Fisherman, Farmer, and Miner.

Two of them were stockman knives, the Farmer and the Rancher. I have those two. Beautiful bone handles and some nice blade etching with scenes of these workmen.

Here's a pic from a thread about them over in the Schrade forum. This set belongs to Irv, I believe:

I think knives are a lot like sex:

When they're good they're REALLY good, and when they're bad, they're still pretty good!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I have some cattle knives to show off, but I have to take some pictures.

McGreg, between you and Waynorth, my slobber towel is getting all worn out!

Karl - You'll like that RAT stockman. I have one, and it is a very nice knife. Solid, and well made. Love that rams horn...

The Stockman is my favorite pattern, and I have a bunch from quite a few makers.

Thanks lambertiana!
Just looking at it I figured it would be a solid performer.

This is actually my first knife with D2 steel blades.
Any hints on which sharpening angle would be good to give it that allround use extra sharp edge??

Wow that pic. of that Rat drove me nuts so I went to Cumberland knives and bought one for 79$ I cant wait to get my hands on that baby. Thanks for the picture.

Here is an unusual one- a six blade Cattleman marked Kutmaster, used by a sales rep to demonstrate various available blade configurations to customers.

Here's an updated pic of the Stockman knives I have.

There's a couple new Eye Brands, a new Moore Maker, and a Cold Steel in there.

Right now, I'm keeping my eyes open for an older Buck 301 with the bone scales.

Arathol,
What an amazing multiblade Cattleman folder! And most unusual looking punch blade!!. Is there anything stamped on either side of that punch??

Guyon - I'm going to play devil's advocate here and remind you that you don't have the RAT ram's horn stockman in your collection. I have one, and it is quite the knife.

Other than that, you have a very nice assemblage of stockmans.

sunnyd, that one (5301 model) is smooth bone and is made by Queen. The black water buffalo (2301), on the other hand, is made by Camillus.

That 6-blade cattleman is very nice indeed.

I'll have to give the RAT a look. Who sells it? Does it ONLY come with the punch, or is there a spey blade model?

Thanks lambertiana!

My experience with D2 is that it doesn't take the best edge with very thin angles. I think that this is because D2 has a larger grain structure than some steels. So, I may back bevel with the 30 degree angle on my Sharpmaker (15 degrees each side), but then I put on a working edge of 40 degrees (20 each side). YMMV, but this is the best way I've found to get a good shaving edge on D2.
