So, new to the knife making scene, been floating around the site, reading all the stickies and caught the addiction! I'm active duty Air Force and I have always been good at making things with my hands, of cousre with some practice... While me and the wife were walking through the BX here in Guam i saw some edger blades ( I know cheap metal), then it hit me I could make a practice knife out of these 70 cent edger blades ...so I did!! ...it turned okay nothing fancy ...cheap wood handle, finger grooves ... so then of course I had to buy some metal so I ordered some 1080 online to make a knife!!! This is an addiction!!!!

It is indeed an addiction. I hope you're prepared to be really poor, as you buy all the cool tools out there for making your blades, and are constantly buying new steels and exotic woods for your handles, and pin materials, etc. Welcome to the addiction!

Welcome to Shop Talk.

As you probably already know, the edger blade isn't knife steel.

Oh I know, it is stupid hard to work with, but I got some really good practice with the files. Also it was 70 cents...so no loss there. I just wanted something cheap to start with before I started buying metal. I needed to show my wife that I was capable of such a feat before she would let me buy metal...smart lady !!

Hafa adai! (That's "hello" in Chamorro/Guamanian for the rest of you.) If you are constantly thinking about the next knife you are going to make, then you are definitely hooked!

This is my problem,

I start thinking about the next project, and completely forget about my current knife.
