…this site can become quite expensive :) I innocently joined about three years ago when I stumbled on it doing research for a new hunting knife. I now own 4 Busse’s, 2 ESEE’s, 4 Blackjacks, 2 Falkniven’s, and a few CRKT’s for EDC. I also got crazy hooked on convex edges and have spent numerous hours (and dollars) creating mouse pad sharpening systems, stropes, and recently acquired a Kalamazoo 1x42 belt sander. I realize this is still a very small collection relative to many of the bladeforum members but it is certainly a long way from buying a single hunting knife.

Also, beware of the time consumption. I cannot count the times my wife has rolled the eyes when she looks over my shoulder to see what I’m working on and she finds I’m knee deep in a thread on sharpening/knife reviews/insert other here.

My big regret? That I didn’t find bladeforums earlier! I’m not really the avid poster type but I’ve really enjoyed access to all the incredible knowledge folks here have and share. Thank you!

Well, I see it as less expensive than my BRD (black rifle disease).
With that being said.....I work in a machine shop and can make knives in my free time. I made 2 knives approx 8 yrs ago. Long story short, they were M2 tool steel and way too hard so they broke. I would also like to add the heat treatment was not my fault.

I recently began making 4 new knives 3 are the same design. (1 for me and 1 for each of my sons and the 4th is different it's for my daughter) I will post pics when I'm done.

As of right now I have around $60.00 in all 4 so it's cheaper for me. :D

Started collecting knives in.... 1969. I had already collected 5 vintage Camoros before I ever frequented a forum. Had owned 11 Jeeps before the Jeep forum. Five Toyota Landcruisers before that forum. Three Porsches before that forum.
"Newb" is a very very relative term. Usually really inaccurate.

Hey sounds neat, and I'll look forward to some pics. Also welcome aboard BF!

Just hold on because the madness is about to begin!!:)

If you really want to go for a shock make an excel sheet of your knives with on of the columns being "cost" and auto sum that...I just did that and its pushing $6K.

Went thru my stuff some time back and totalled up close to $4K, and that was before I even thought about collecting knives, just snuck up on me.
I blame in on my old Unk, who has gone on know, he instilled an appreciation for all things well made......

I'm in total agreement. Taking nothing away from the knowledgeable people that frequent this forum, I find it funny how some seem to equate newness to Blade Forums as being new to knives/knife collecting.

I think my wife is is looking at me right now but I don't want to make eye contact...

Been into knives for over 40 years. I've had quite a few.....but not anywhere near as many as I've had since joining here. Advice? Don't let it affect your daily necessary living expenses :)

That is too frigging hilarious :D only because I know EXACTLY what you're talking about!

Every time I reach for my phone or computer she knows what's going on, I can't hide it or help it. This is addicting as the OP stated
