I was interested in a knife Edgefinder Edgefinder had listed for sale, the original description was vague and the pics weren't great...

so I PM'd some questions...

This is what I received...

I printed a shipping label and sent him the tracking number, at which point he immediately posted that the knife as available for purchase again and edited the description to read...

He then proceeded to drop the price a couple times, at which point I PM'd him again...

The knife was delivered as of 12:08 pm local time, and I have received a refund from Edgefinder Edgefinder (no, he did not cover return shipping).

I think this thread is a rash decision

Chip is absolutely correct in this case to post this. Could he have waited a few days more? Maybe, but if the seller who apparently has yet to be in possession of that knife, has yet to unwind the deal and refund his buyer to the buyer's satisfaction decides to remarket something which he does not have the ownership of yet, it does cause a legitimate alarm for the buyer (Chip) to sound.

I think this thread is a rash decision

Why is it rash? He specifically asked about lockup and got a specific response - which turned out to be untrue.

It's a cautionary thread with plenty of info. Not rash at all.

And for the record, you can make something look like an antique without sacrificing fit and finish.

What bothers me the most (other than misrepresentation), is that the reply was “sorry you dont like it.”

“Sorry, you dont like it, what can I do to make it right? $50 off? Refund plus shipping?” This is an appropriate response.

I dont know what edgefinders situation is right now...but honesty is the best policy.

At the very best, the thread title could have been colored Gray but I see plenty of legitimate causes for Chip to have tagged it as code Red. Even when the seller makes him whole, Chip did waste time and effort (in the days of COVID-19 going to the USPS for picking up being a major one, the rest of it notwithstanding!) in taking possession to his extreme disappointment. Again, I don't see a problem in here (ETA: with cautionary posting and no haste IMO) specially when the seller is fouling the rules of the Exchange.

Right? I was a big fan of his immediate inference of "Well, I mean, stop complaining, the maker charges XYZ so you're totally getting a deal, pal."

Weak.

I got that from the reply as well.
More like “hey buddy, im doing you a favor! It’s $350-$400 from the maker for a custom jiggly blade and poor fit & finish!”

Well, he was last seen viewing this thread 17 minutes ago so hopefully this is resolved soon for you WValtakis WValtakis .

Exactly! The honorable and truthful way would've been like this:

"This item sells for XYZ but since I was not impressed with it, because it (fill in here), I am selling it at a whatever% discount to the original XYZ price for a hard to find item. If you are happy with the description, the deal and think that you can make it your own by dealing with it as-is, then go for it. Otherwise I do not need headache buyers and tire kickers as I am not offering you a sale or return deal."

If relisting the item as it was in transit is breaking the forum rules, I apologize for not knowing the rules.

The buyer did not ask for a discount to keep the knife, and I did not offer it.

Since, I did not know this person, nor ever remember dealing with them, I did not feel secure in issuing a refund prior to receiving the item.

I believe this is the first negative feedback I have received on BF since registering @ 20 years ago.

Quoted from the Exchange rules linked at the top of the page:
"
Sellers/Selling -
  1. Be 100% sure that you want to sell the item, have it in your possession and clearly list the TOTAL selling price."

I can't help but notice you completely ignored the actual reasons for the return, the glaring lockup/fit & finish issues that I specifically asked about and of which I was not informed.

I don't see bad feedback or retaliatory bad feedback. Hopefully the matter will be restricted to this thread only and contained within. To the seller, I am not piling on you but genuinely showing you where you went wrong and what you are still doing wrong. Stop digging yourself into a deeper hole! You refunded, apologize by saying that you farked up, bad times, needed $, weren't thinking your best, whatevs, etc...

When I stated it was made like an antique pick lock, I mistakenly thought you would understand that antique pick locks are not of the highest finish. I honestly think the lock-up is very good for a knife of this type.
It is not a "bank vault" lock-up.
Not many pick locks that I have owned in 40+ years lock-up that tightly with -0- movement.
Your expectations are/were greater/different than mine, and my inability to describe what you were asking in this particular case.
I did get this knife directly from Jeremy and it has been stored since, and this is how he makes them. When you asked the blade steel type I immediately contacted Jeremy and asked him and he stated 1095. I immediately informed you of the 1095 blade steel.
Sorry, it did not work out.
I do not sell knives for a living. It is a hobby that I have enjoyed for 40+ years.

All the best to you.

Sir, I believe I read your exact words were,
“Lock up is solid. Its made to be/look antique.”

I think at this point there is some misunderstandings in communication, however, blade play is something that should be mentioned whether its “supposed” to be there. You have been around here for long enough to know that at least.
