Cayenne pepper questions...

Besides being one of my favorite seasonings, I recently found out over on Mr. Randall's outdoor forum that this stuff makes for a good coagulent, and should be an essential part of every outdoor FA kit. So, can anyone explain this one to me? Extremely technical medical-speak is preferred if anyone is so qualified. I understand that it has some vasoconstrictive properties to it. Can anybody direct me to a link for further info?
Thanks in advance for all your input,
Mongo

Not the answer you're looking for, but cayenne is often used for blood issues in homeopathy. That's where you're most likely to find the kind of data and use directions you're looking for, IMHO.

Googling under "cayenne coagulant" the hits indicate it is the comparatively high vitamin K content that triggers the coagulation. It will sting when applied externally. Quite a few hits for your reading pleasure.

My guess is if you rub fresh or powdered cayenne into a cut, you won't really care about the bleeding because it will hurt so bad it will take your mind off it untill it stops anyway.
