I was over at my wifes grandfathers house today and of course we started talking knives thanks to me. The wifes grandpa said he didint know I collected knives and walked to his bed room and came back out with an old timer #89ot. He told me I never knew you liked knives so take this one. I wanted to start jumping up and down (im sure you guys know what I mean) The knife isint perfect there is some blade inperfections but I dont believe its ever been sharpened, and A nice piece to add to an allready somewhat small collection. He said he had more knives and I'd maybe get to see or have what he has in the future. He said he thinks he's got about a half dozen of these floating around the house too. anyway I hadent even seen the 89ot# before any thoughts or info for me guys. were these very common? thanks, joel

They ~used~ to be fairly common on eBay. Not 34OT common, but more common that many of the others. I think they've become more scarse now and Old Timer prices have recently been rising.

I have no idea what CBI Services is though. Someplace your wife's grandfather used to work?

yea -it stands for chicago bridge and Iron. and it also says WORK SAFELY on the back.( and yes cbi is where her grandpa use to work. joel

FYI, the 8OT is the same as your 89OT, but the 8OT does not have the serrated blade. The 8OT is very common on eBay, should you wish to carry a knife like that without the risk of losing your family heirloom.

Occationally you may see an 89OT that does not have the serrated blade. Those are likely factory error knives.

Searching the forum for "89OT", you can also learn that your knife was made from 1989-1999.

bob thanks for the info and I ve got a couple of 8ot's that I compared it to thanks again for the info. I also noticed the brass end pins are smaller on this 89ot than on the 80t I have is that just a change from time periods or something else.-joel

Although I can't say for sure, I suspect the smaller pins are older, so you're 8OT is newer than your 89OT. Maybe one of the resident experts can add something to confirm or dispute that.
