Jim,
The CBKC Special ia approximately 9 1/2"OA. A very handsome little khukuri:

This thing causes severe cognitive dissonance. The problem is it is so small and cute ( to a khukaholic ) yet it has a 5 1/2" blade. If you suffer from HIKV, you likely think of this as a "mouse khuk" the way firearms enthusiasts refer to 22 and 25 pocket pistols as "mouse guns"

There are several full size fighting knives designed from the get-go with blades in this range. Example: the Randal #1 Fighting Knife comes in 5,6,7,&8 inch blade lengths. The classic #1 is a 7", but I have a BlackJack ( now out of business ) Randal clone with a 5 7/8ths inch blade.

OTOH, in khuk circles as a rule of thumb a real khuk starts about 14 or 15 inches overall. The 12"ers, with their 8 inch blades, are considered babies. The CBKC looks like something you'd dangle from your car's interior rear view mirror like the pink foam dice were back in the Elvis era.

Incidentally the CBKC stands for the Chesapeake Bay Knife Club, which ordered a serialized run of them for their members a decade back.

Now that's an idea to try out Rusty. Hanging one of my smaller Khuks from the rear view mirror in the car. I'll either be calling the insurance agency more often with a claim or being questioned by curious law enforcement officers as to the reason for the curious window decoration. (And probably where they could get some)

FYI- Here in Texas any single-edged non-automatic knife with a blade length of 5.5" or less is civilian legal for concealed or open carry.

That's one of my points about HIKV! The 12 1/2" OAL and 8 1/2" bladed khuks are thought of as babies. And the 9 1/2" OAL and 5 1/2" bladed cute little "toy size" ones like the CBKC - the miniatures - may or may not be too big to be Texas legal for open wear.

That situation is going to have me going out in the back yard and howling at the moon tonite - if I can quit ROTFLMAO long enough to catch my breath. Besides, our next door neighbor's sister moved in to take care of her, bringing 5 little shoebox size dogs untrained, bad tempered, and yapping constantly... time for this man of Hungarian and Transylvanian ancestry to sing with the creatures of the night.

For perspective, here's an optical illusion - which is the BIG knife?
View

Randall 1-8? BIG knife.
CS Trailmaster? BIG knife.
HI "ugly duckling" Villager? Naah, dinky little knife - better get a Ganga Ram Special for serious work.
(Oh, hello, nurse - time for my meds again so soon?)

Beautifully done example Berkley.

And Jaeger, that ain't (just) warped, that is true character with a little flavor to it.

Identify the BIG knife, part 2:

The bottom knife is 1/4" too BIG for legal carry in Texas. That means the top knife is.....

JD,
That's one of the first Ganga Ram Specials, crafted by master kami Ganga Ram Bishwakarma when he was 88. Rumor has it that in his youth he preferred BIG khukuris

Omigawd. Thank you for the perspective. My 18" AK looks like a penknife in comparison. I hadn't realized the Gangas were so HUGE. Now I may be suffering from khuk envy. Tell the truth - you fed that thing steroids didn't you?

What are some thoughts on this: A "mini chopper" this size with an HI "normal" thickness blade, maybe 9/16" or 5/8" thick by 2" wide to put as much mass as possible in a small (legal) package. The handle could maybe be longer than usual for more leverage. It probably would'nt be beautiful but it also would'nt be be subject to confiscation. I think it could also make a nice companion piece for my ang khola, for certain jobs that fall in between what the karda and the full size blade do.

Yeah it is that big and it came that way. A bura made ganga ram got sent me and I returned it. Every time I looked at it was torture. I knew it couldn't be real.

Oh yes, more thoughts. Back around 6/20-21/00 Bill was talking up the Kumar Karda for fathers day.

http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum53/HTML/000425.html . Ten inches, 6" blade, 4" handle.

But what still amuses me are the tactical folder crowd with their 3 3/4" blades. The kagas katne ( paper cutter ) has a 3 3/4" blade close enough. That's it, turn the kagas katne into a bolo or string tie centerpiece! the "ultimate neck knife"!!!!

( OK, I carry a Spyderco Endura with that length blade. I'm sure the people willing to pay the bucks for an Emerson or Microtech can do amazing things with them. Remember we started out picking on full sized fighters. Saw no reason not to include folders too. Now I'm gonna go pull the karda from my 30 Sirupati and see how big it is.

Anyone still mad, go back and look and look again at the little itty bitty one ( next to the Ganga Ram ) that's too large to wear in the open in Texas. The two legged Khuks on
this forum do have a distorted sense of proportion and you can probably see why! )
