CCC axe & tool thread.

A lot of our FS district was built by the CCC, Including the barn I work out of. Pretty simple, good quality work. Great materials like clear old growth redwood and Doug fir for both framing and paneling.

A lot of beautiful stonework .....bridges and retaining walls on the highway down the river canyon etc. Still looks good, although much has been lost to highway widening projects.

They did some amazing work in Mt. Rainier National Park that still stands strong today. Very skilled people were leading those crews.

I cleaned up this saw handle and think it is probably worth contributing to this thread. An Atkins #20 with a CCC handle, stamped “?S-CCC”. Perhaps read US-CCC?

It’s got a pretty cool mechanism to tighten it.

Not sure about the CCC e-tool. I checked it and the only marking is on the metal collar that goes around the wooden shaft and it is just a "U.S." The canvas cover that hooks the e-tool to your web belt is marked "W.L. Dumas MFG Co 1943". I supposed he could have gotten the cover at a later date, no way to tell. The metal canteen and cover are both marked "1918" so it could well have been used by the CCC. John

I've got an Iron City Tool Works 60" wedge point crow bar that is stamped SCS 9. The SCS was the Soil Conservation Service which supervised a bunch of CCC camps. SCS 9 was a CCC camp near Seneca Lake NY and operated from 1939-1942.

I hope to learn some specifics on this one i recently brought home and rehung today.
Just searching out this thread to post in it, i have learned from you about the SCS. Perhaps the 6 or the 13 are references to a camp and or location.
Thank you.
