Was thinking of getting a smaller pistol as a pocket carry or ankle carry. Wondering what people carried?

Pocket carry seems more logical and practical. Ankle carry seems good as a backup weapon plus frees up your pockets.

Any suggestions on what firearms would be ideal. Was looking at Springfield XdS 3.3, ruger, kahr, glock 28

Obviously we are talking small, price range $600 or lower, caliber 9 mm or 38

Kahr PM9/CM9 is the smallest 9 I've tried or owned, just couldn't get used to the long trigger pull, I now carry a Walther PPS in a Galco ankle holster or Remora IWB holster

There's alot of really compact ccw holsters these days, inner waist band, front pouch that will be a lot more comfortable than ankle carry. The ankle holsters mess with your gait and are not the most convenient to reach for. I think it would be hard to go wrong with a Ruger LC series. If you're doing the ankle thing that pistol has gotta be stupid small. Like LCP small.

The Ruger LCP is a nice pistol, but I would also look at the S&W Bodyguard 38 with laser. I like pocket carry and it has saved my bacon. The only down side is sitting in a car with a seat belt on makes the gun hard to reach. An ankle holster is better then. Otherwise, an ankle holster is harder to reach during normal activities and if you cross your legs while sitting the gun will show. I have seen ankle holsters come off while running, too. So, for me, pocket carry is better.

Ruger LCP in the pocket. Desantis nemesis holster. Works great. Secure enough to even be thrown in my waistband too if necessary as the outside of the holster is grippy.

A gun like the XDS or similar sized pistols are too big for Pocket carry. And as for ankle carry I wouldn't ever want to do that personally. The xds or g43 would be perfect for IWB carry as they're supper thin but still 9 mm and fairly accurate. I am getting the XDS or G43 or the PPS m2 to replace my LCP as my lazy carry. The gun I carry when I don't want to carry my larger G19.

Which ever I get I will be carrying it with a simple IWB holster that I can clip on or off fast. The holster I use for my g19 is great but it's not something I could slip on or off my belt quickly since it uses 2 clips.

Just my advice. Skip ankle altogether and if you want to do pocket carry then you need to look at something that is the size of the LCP/bodyguard or similar 380. The only 9mm I would consider pocketable is maybe the sig p938. You could go with a snub nose though and get 38 special too. I'd probably go for the 5 shot snub nose if it were me and make sure it can take +P ammo.

Im 6-1 210 and dont wear tight clothing. Ive owned just about all the popular single stack 9mms and the only one that truly seemed small enough to me for pocket carry is the Kahr CM-9 and its a great little gun. The Diamondback DB9 is smaller yet but I cant recommend that one due to reliability issues. The 43, Shield, XDS, are all great guns just to big for pocket carry imo with the 43 coming the closest. Other then that you have to drop down to a .380 imo.

I pocket carry a Sig P238
To add:
If you are considering a 9mm, the Sig P938 may be worth a look. Nearly the same package as the P238 but about .5 in longer overall and probably a touch longer in the handle to accommodate the longer round.

I've been carying a micro desert eagle for a few years and love it, usually just throw it in my pocket under my wallet to break up the print.

The micro eagle is pimp, pricey though, but man when I think of a pocket pistol I would look at something utilitarian, in your pocket, get scratched up - not care, drop it, kick it and fire if needed.

I do pray that the majority of folks live somewhere where they don't need serious fire power and where shooting someone is a last resort and shooting them once is a deterrent from them attacking.

I wouldn't ever conceal carry, but I have a pretty normal life in the suburbs. Which is why I like the lcp a lot. Proven sub compact carry choice. They're like glocks as ugly as they are if I had to grab something in my house to use and not think about how yuppy hipster cool it is eg cz75 Sp01 where my life depended on it operating it would be a gen 3/4 glock pick your chamber size. I'd put the lcp/lc series in that category.

*full disclosure I might have a bias as I'm left handed... So certain right handed safety guns rub me the wrong way. I think it might skew my view of firearms. Pistols more so than long guns.

I read somewhere that, concealed carry may not be that comfortable sometimes as it is comforting.

Weren't you looking at the glock 26/43 9mm pistols a while back? The glock 28 in .380 acp (not to be confused with the .38 special, .38 acp, or .38 super) doesn't offer enough imho to justify changing calibers.

I don't think I'd carry any auto pistol in the pocket though. The slide won't cycle reliably in the pocket meaning you cant shoot through your jacket if that situation ever came up.

Yes, I bought the G 26 and the RFT remora IWB holster. I'm getting ready to move soon. Then I'll probably get a stealth gear IWB holster. Great gun, shoots great as is.

That is really the only thing that matters. What works for you.

Some folks like appendix carry but again it comes down to what works for you. Your body type, clothing, and operating environment decide.

I like that guy. I like appendix carry when I'm standing, but not when I'm sitting.
