CE Delica?

First off, I tried searching for this, but the search module wasn't working.

So, I am thinking of buying a Delica for EDC, and was wondering if Combo Edge would be practical?

The Del is pretty small, so if I got CE, would there be enough of each edge type to any good cutting?

Should I get either PE or SE in Delica, or go up to an Endura for CE. (All my knives are PE so far, so I want some serrations...) I'll be getting a Sharpmaker to take care of them.

Please give me your imput,

Thanks in Advance

In my opinion (for whatever that is worth) no, the Delica blade is not long enough to give enough of either edge type when you try to put both on there. Of course, I don't think the Catcherman has enough edge for both, either.

You may have guessed I'm not a CE fan ;) :D
I carry a C44 Dyad so I can have a full plain and a full serrated in one knife, thus avoiding the issue. :p

I personally don't like combo edge knives at all, no matter how long the blade is. The serrations always seem to just get in the way. I don't really care much for serrations in general. I haven't tried any Spyderco serrated or combo edge knives yet though, and from what I've heard, the Spyder Edge may change my mind. I'd stick with the plain edge Delica personally, but I'm sure there will be those who chime in in favor of the SE and/or CE as well.

Now, whenever I manage to get myself into a position in life where i can get myself a kayak and/or canoe, then it'll be a different story and I'll definitely be getting a Tasman Salt or similar fully serrated hawkbill blade to keep on my PFD.

I carry a CE delica to work. Small enough for easy carry. The serrations come in handy at my job(boxes, cord, rope and tubing) Its all dependant on what your going to use it for.

I carry a Delica 3 SE to work and it works great. I work in a home improvement store and it is perfect for that environment. It eats cardboard, twine, plastic strapping, rope, etc with no hiccups whatsoever.

For an office environment, however, you might consider the plain edge. If you are just going to be opening mail and whatnot, you don't really need the extra cutting power (plus cries of "that looks dangerous!") that the Spyderedge offers.

I have an Endura CE, and I find myself wishing it was just fully serrated.

i completely agree. i just picked up a SE endura and it cuts like a monster(i just wish it was waved):D

Hmmmmmm, so if I wanted CE, I should get an Endura instead?

Might be a bit cumbersome for EDC...

Hey yablanowitz, just got the joke, the Catcherman is a freaking 4.75in. fillet knife!!!!

The Endura is a bit of a handful/pocketful. If you think you have the need for a lot of tough cutting it may be the route to go. It may also raise some eyebrows around non knife people.

I have a CE Delica and if I could only have one knife for EDC this is the one I'd pick.

For basic everyday tasks such as opening mail, cutting boxes, cutting cable ties, slicing rope, trimming plants, etc. my CE Delica performs well. It's an all around champ in my book.

I wasn't saying you should get an Endura, I was just saying that my combo-edge experience has been with the Endura. Sorry for the confusion.

My most recent knife acquisition has been a Delica4 CE. Normally for a knife this size I'd choose a SE or PE. But I bought it as a near-impulse buy and CE is all they had. I've been using mine every day for the past month and it works great. It cuts everything I've needed at work, home, etc. And this knife can handle some pretty significant cutting chores, and handles like a bigger knife.

Now I am also thinking about getting a SE Endura4 as well. I own a bunch of 1's, 2's, and 3's, but really have gotten into the 4's.

I had the same doubt a few months ago, and I went for a SE Delica. Couldn't be happier about it, it is my most used/carried knife. The cutting power you get with one of these is nothing short of amazing. All my other knifes are either PE or CE (some of the bigger ones), and the SE puts the Delica up there with the big boys.

Regarding the Endura, I've got both PE (Wave) and CE, and if it's the only knife I'm carrying, CE gives me good versatility.

Ok, since I have a PE Griptilian 551, I'm gonna go ahead and get a SE Delica 4.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Yea I would say its good for edc. I've been carrying a SE Delica for a few months now, although I must say I just ordered a PE to try out for a while just to compare.
