I had gotten pine pitch all over a Victorinox Classic, and decided to clean it off by soaking the entire knife in 91% isopropyl alcohol. I left the knife in the alcohol for probably an hour, and when I took it out, the pine sap was gone, but the cellidor handles had softened to the point where I could pick them apart with my fingernail:( . Just thought I would pass this info along to those of you who might be thinking about cleaning your SAK with rubbing alcohol. Don't know if this happens with the 70% as well, but probably something to be aware of in general.

they sell repacement scales in diffrent colors in case you want to replace them.... thanks for the heads up

My suggestion: the scales are already wasted, so why not try something different? I'm gonna send one of my SAKs to a custom knifemaker this year to have the scales replaced with carbon fiber ones.
I've seen a pic of a SAK with (custom) wooden scales, too. Looks real nice.

Quiet Storm-- I may put some different handle slabs on at some point, but this is just one of the little keychain models. They sell them for $5 at wal-mart, so it is probably just cheaper to buy a new one.

I sometimes use rubbing alcohol instead of oil or water on an Arkansas stone bench hone. It does a nice job, but I've had it marr the finish on SAK's.

I know it's late but the best thing that I found for cleaning sap, at least off of skin, was vegetable oil. Once you use that to get the sap off, just use hot soapy water to get the oil off.
