Celluloid question

Is the 'plain black' (jigged black really) celluloid ? i don't think so. that stuff shrinks but does not give off noxious gas. least that's what i think is correct, but would like correction please if wrong.

The jigged black scales on ebbtide's knife is definitely celluloid that has decided to decompose. You can see the corrosion on the upper part of the blade which is characteristic of off-gassing celluloid.

I have a Camillus stockman that my F-I-L had and used for years. A lot of years. It is worn out and the scales have off-gased and shrunken severely.

It is a pretty material with a dark side. Once it goes over to the dark side, there is no stopping it.

That faux tortoise shell is stunning, Elliot. Dennis puts on a great show with his GEC acrylics also. I think that some of the newest acrylic is a good rival to the best of the old cell.

Man...can I second that?

Elliot..that is one awesome knife-really is!

Ed...that broken chain knife is such a sweet knife!

I don't know what this is made of - it's a Camco. I picked it up at an antique shop a while back. Looks too old to be acrylic, but I don't think it's celluloid either.
