Centofante I question...

First, hello everyone. Second, I looked around, but if this is answered elsewhere, I apologize.

Okay-- I found a Centofante I at the Seki city knife festival yesterday. Its blade is marked Golden, Colorado and has what looks to be a 3-digit serial number on the top of the blade. Is this a limited edition knife or were all of them numbered, or did someone put it there later? btw, I bought it from a dealer who had a large selection of older edition Spydercos in addition to AlMar, Miko, and other Seki city knives.

Any info on this knife would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kent

Welcome to the forum!

My C25P Centofante I is numbered 713, which is way over the Collector's Club number range. I don't know if all of them were numbered, or just the first thousand, but yours was probably numbered from the factory. As for limited edition...I don't think so, although I don't have a clue how many were produced.

I seem to remember threads on other models that had the entire first production run numbered.

Up until a couple years ago, the entire first production run of all collaboration models was numbered. Think the Gunting was the last, but it might have been the Impala.

Does it have a Gold Spyderco emblem on the side, or a silver emblem?? I think the first 200(or maybe first 500, don't remember) had a gold emblem, then all the others had silver.
The gold emblem is harder to find.

Hey, thanks guys! Good info. Well, mine has the gold emblem, but the number on the blade is 623.
I appreciate your help. I've loved Spydercos for years and have carried them for a long time, but just realized their collectability. I've carried a Walker design folder since just after moving to Japan (about 4 1/2 yrs) and love the liner lock. I picked up the Centofante because of the liner lock and its sleek lines & light weight. I saw the number on the blade and it made me think twice about using it as a daily carry knife.

My C25P is my favorite whittling knife. I say carry that thing and use it. ;)

Thanks. I'll try to figure out how to post a pic. Just tell me it's not particularly collectable and I'll happily carry it daily. ;)

Hmmm....maybe it was the first 1000 then that had a gold emblem. I forget. :)

Hi. I'll post pics soon, but the posting rules at the bottom of this page say I may not post attachments--does that mean pics?

Pictures can be posted here as attached thumbnails. If you can't use attachments, you could upload photos to a free hosting site like Imageshack or Photobucket and then display them in the body of the post, or have those sites create thumbnail code lines.

BTW, congrats on the Centofante. That is one of my all time favorite knife designs, Spyderco or otherwise.

Check the clip of the knife. The world "foreign" was misspelled "foriegn" on many of these models. Interesting little fact.

Awesome knife BTW.

Whkento, do you know of any modern locking folders made using Hitachi Super blue carbon steel over there? Sorry to hijack the thread but I've been looking for a few years now. We can get fixed blades, but not folders except for the laminated kids knife that doesn't lock. If you knew any names I'd probably not have trouble importing it. Thanks, Joe

I think the Centofante line is one of the best ever made. The Cent 2,3 and 4 are great knives. The Cent 1 was a bit before I got into Spydercos but I am sure it is just as nice as the ones the followed. Can't really go wrong with a Centofante, they seem to be the thinking man's knife.

Well, I'm having trouble with photobucket, so pics will have to wait...

Joe, send me an e-mail to whkento@yahoo.com with some more info and I'll see what I can do.

Also, ElectricZombie, you were right-- the word Foreign was misspelled on the clip. Very interesting.

Okay, I think I've got the pics figured out. One is of the Centofante I and the other is it with my Walker design spydie (which will be the subject of a different post) and a G Sakai folder I particularly like.
