Central Texas Khukuri Convention

There was beef jerky to buy, knives and guns galore to ogle, then off for cold pints and hot grub, more than a little yarnin', and fondling of cherished large and larger knives. Some really great guys, and a fine time was had by all. We thought of the rest of you, and raised a frosty Heineken to Uncle Bill.
Pappy and Sarge contributed this demonstration of proper hanshee technique for the safety thread:

And I hate to think what the folks who stepped out of the darkened draughthouse into the blazing sun thought when they saw this scary sight!

And Dave brought some of his other favorites (besides the Ganga Ram in the previous pic) to pass around and enjoy.

No brusie... it is 22" long and about 3.5 pounds (Ha! You stand CORRECTED). No... really... It is a good size.

I had a great time. This forum is full of the fruit of the earth, (including a nut here and there), kinda wierd how we all have such a good time and really dont "know" each other.

Anyways besides beer, food, jerkey, some guns, good looking Austin college girls, and a bunch of really cool knives, I also got party favors and some exotic wood to make handles from. Although now that I think of it I wish some of those exotic Austin girls could get to handle some wood, and handle really cool knives and recieve party favors...

Woah... Back on topic... The party favors I recieved, and are truly greatful for, are a Tanto styled knife sans sheath made from a file with a handle of french boxwood from Sarge. And from Berk I got one of the origional production run Kagas Katnes. Both are truly amazing.

Let me tell you, Yall missed a great afternoon. After Pappy and Berk had to split. Sarge and I went to Tandy Leather... very cool place, and then we went to a woodworking store and I bought a large block of Purpleheart to send to Terry Sisco to make me acouple of Khukri handles and some birdseye maple to make a scabbard for the tanto that he gave me.

Dinner time... talk to yall in awhile...

That's just what I need a purpleheart handled Khuk. Must be nice to Hoghead and see if he will do me one:D

hahah, I was just looking at Paxton wood selection and thinking how some of those might look on one of these blems with a cracked handel. :) Thinking this bocote or rosewood I have here would make a very interesting khukuri handle

Folks driving by the Dog & Duck must have been truly puzzled at the goings on in the parking lot. By the way Pappy, thanks for not decapitating me with that Hanshee. It was just one of a collection of vintage khukuris that Berk brought along and had us all prancing with joy like kids on Christmas morning. Talk about weapons that'll talk to you, those old khukuris just whisper at you when you look at them, but they yell in your ear when you hold them in your hand!

Where's Saint Jimmy? Look here Duck, that Samurai Dave's been holding out on you. He's got a puuurty Durba, and, he's got a puuurty M-43. How'd you let them slip by you? Pappy drank the beer you bought him with gusto, but he was checking it real close for feathers, or worse.

All in all, a great day spent with some great guys, and getting to see and handle such a variety of khuks sure adds to a fellow's education.

It has been months ago when I had an enjoyable afternoon the likes of today. Got to meet another forumite today. I almost messed up the time table getting a late start from home.

Sarge and Samurai were coming out of the gun show when I finally got there. So, it was off to the Dog n Duck for a bit of refreshment, good conversation, and viewing some nice looking girls and beautiful Khuks. Thanks to Berkley I now have a khuk for wall hanging. A small khuk that is WWII vintage and Berk figures it was an inside pocket khuk for one of the pilots during that war. A bit longer than the Bilton with more belly to the blade also.

I find that Sarge's knife making skills were good before but the knife he gave me to take to my wife is just a beauty. She didn't like the kitchen knives that I got her from CS but, she sure knows how to use the ones that Sarge makes.

The caliber of gentlemen that my afternoon was spent with sure does restore my faith in men again. I knew there were still good men out there but until I got connected to the HI forum it seemed to me that you had to hunt pretty hard to find the good guys. With a little luck I hope we can meet a couple more times before the summer is over. (More Later)

Looks like I missed a good time there! I will start keeping a closer eye on the forums from now on. I tend to get a little too busy from time to time and dont check here near often enough.

San Antonio is just a hop skip......well a little more than a jump from there but I can do a day trip up that way with little problem, as long as the little truck stays together that is!;)

Let me know when the next meeting comes around and I will be there with bells on! Well.....maybey not bells....but I got knives~!:D

Yeah, I would've loved to have been there myself, but the powwow wasn't bad by anyone's standards!!!!:D
And I didn't blow my diet, did a lot of walking though, for me and woke up this morning at 255 pounds!!!! Only 80 more pounds to go!!!!:D :D :D :D

It was really great to be out among my people once again. I had almost forgotten just how much the Drum sustains us ndns. There's a helluva difference between the sound a powwow drum and the smaller ceremonial drums makes!!!!:)

hee ehee hee. ;):)

I have also been struck by the transportational nature of the drum, (or drums) Yvsa.
