Yes it's that time again. The show is in Austin Texas at the Holiday Inn South, just off I-35 at Woodward. The dates are August 6-8. Chris Carlson is the promoter and will chime in on how to get more information.

It has become a very nice, personable size show with about 80 tables. It is adorned with the very best antique knife dealers such as Jim Seargent, Joe Seal, Tony Foster and Burce Voyles. Also the list of custom makers is impressive. Robert Blasingame, Chester Darcey, Brad Duncan, Richard Epting, Jason Howell, Jerome Anders( MS), Jarrel Lambert (MS), Brion Tomberlin, From Japan..Masao Takahashi, Bailey Bradshaw (MS), Jim Crowell (MS), John Fitch (MS), Pete Peterson, Reggie Barker (Curent World Cutting title holder), John Ownby, Jerry Halfrich, Bill Keller, Michael Johnson, JB Moore, Pat Paterson, Johnny Stout, Harvey Dean (MS) , John Horrigan, Ken Liton, Alan Warren, James Parks, Curtis Wilson, Lloyd McConnel, Weldon Whittley, Bill Rupple, Gayle Bradley, Carlton Evans, Don Morrow, and Wallace Pollock. Bill Rupple will do a demo on filework, and I am conductiong a discussion on engraving. There will also be an Auction on Saturday night.

The list of makers gives a great variety in the style of knives offerered, from fine multiblade folders to lockbacks to linerlocks to forged fixed blades. Takahashi is one of the best makers of Loveless style knives going, and they are very underpriced for the quality.

Not to mention Austin is a really cool place to visit if you are into history, the music sceen, watersports ( Schlitterbahn water park is not far) or if you just like the hill country of Texas.

I have attended every year it has been in existance, and have watched it grow both in quality of makers and in attendace. All in all, this is my favorite show to display at.

Ya'll come down, and see how we do it in Texas!!

Man I soooooo wish I could be there - right around my birthday too. :D Maybe I should just send my wife down to shop for my present. ;) That's a real impressive line-up. And Chris is one of the good guys.

More info can be found here: http://www.texknife.com

Cheers,

Roger

I have to agree with Bailey, this is probably the best kept sectet in Texas.
Many of the best makers in Texas will be there. Chris does a great job running the show and Austin is a terrific place to visit. Ya`ll come on down.

If you liked the Little Rock Show at the Hilton, you'll love the Central Texas Knife Show. Smaller show(compared to Atlanta of course) with a comfortable feel and some great makers. The show has begun to draw some great ABS makers to Texas, not that there aren't some good ones here already ;) Chris has grown a great show in the Hill Country of Texas. This is some of the prettiest country in the USA and August is the perfect time to enjoy it! Schlitterbahn, Natural Bridge Caverns, Canyon Lake, Lake Travis and Gruene Hall are all within an hour or so of the knife show. Hope to see everyone there. Drop by and say Hi.

I was there last year and Ill probably be there this year.
Was a great small show w/ some really good makers there last year.

Austin? Bailey Bradshaw? Bill Ruple? Barbecue? Asleep At The Wheel?

:D

I'm going to go check to see what's left on my air-miles account right now! :)

The show has really came a long way in the last 6 years. As you can tell the quality of makers is really high. The thing is that most of the "big names" mentioned will have knives for sale on Friday morning. So if any of you collectors are looking for knives from any of the above mentioned names this would be a good opportunity to make it happen. Plus the fact we always have a good meal and a good time on Friday and Saturday nights.

Very good advice, thank you sir.

You live in Hutto, huh? I don't suppose you drive a Chevy pickup, do ya? Seems like I saw a red Chevy in downtown Taylor a couple three weeks ago that had a sign in the window advertising custom knives.

There's only about 800,000 people in Texas who have a red Chevy truck...
Hehe add a sign to my truck and that could just as well have been me :p

James, I am not a maker. I buy, sell and collect a few handmades and a few antique factory knives, plus put on the show. I enjoy those things along with bowling. That pretty much takes up all of my spare time and spare money. The closest I ever came to making a knife was in March I went down to Bill Ruples home/shop for a few days and was with him while he made my 11 year old daughter her first knife and my wife a knife for her birthday. Yes it was a great experience. If you have not gotten to know Bill Ruple yet youre missing out.

I am sure planning to make this show. Six or seven years ago I stumbled on Chris’s web site. He was in Hutto and I was down the road a little in Austin. We made arrangements to meet half way between in a fast food joint early one Saturday morning. I still remember the look on the faces of the employees as he spread out three big glass cases of knives on the table. I bought one of Bailey Bradshaw’s stag “Whitewing” lock backs from him. I ask him if he had heard about the first Central Texas Knife Show coming up in a few weeks. To my surprise he told me that he was the one putting on the show. I’ve made’um all but one ever since. Good man and a good show.

Tom, it can get pretty hot, but we have the show inside an air conditioned hotel so it aint bad. Just make sure to drink plenty of water for those trips out to the parking lot :D

:D Don't I know it. It was the downtown Taylor part of it that I figured might narrow it down. Can't be more than a thousand red Chevys running around there, right? ;)

Well, that's good to know. I figure the more folks around here who make and deal in knives, the better off I'll be. I've talked my best friend into helping me build a forge out at my grandfather's old welding shop. Maybe once I've made a knife or two that actually look like something, I'll start emailing some local knifemakers and dropping by to shoot the breeze. I know there're some really, really talented folks within a couple hours drive.

James, and anyone else in the Austin area, we have a group that meets on the first Saturday of every month at BBQ places to eat and show knives and swap stories. The meetings are mostly north like in Georgetown,Salado and Belton. If anyone would like to be notified about the next meeting just send me an email.

Well this will be the first one for me and my wife and I are looking forward to it. I also want to thank Chris for being a real good person to deal with and I look forward to meeting you. Besides Austin in the summertime, BBQ, friends, and those pleasant temps. See you all there.
