Anybody in or around Austin willing to show a noobie the ropes on belt grinding??? I have access to a sheetmetal fab shop if needed, lots of 304 stainless, and copper.

Johnny Stout has his shop not to far from you and he has a hammer in most every fall. It may be fixing to come. There will be several there that really know what they do. Get in contact with him. Good luck.

Seems like there's some knife get-togethers fairly regularly in New Braunfels. And I believe that's where Mr. Stout lives as well. Definitely see if you can arrange a stop by his shop or a hammer-in. He's a master of the craft.

The hammer-in at Johnny's is September 19th and 20th.

Flat grinding and hollow grinding will be covered along with many other topics. Instructors are Richard Rogers, Richard Epting, Harvey Dean and Johnny.

I know from past experience that Bill Ruple and Rusty Preston make it to all they can. There is a wealth of knowledge there from the instructors and the makers attending.

I went to Guadalupe Forge Hammer-in at Johnny Stout's as a newbie several years ago.

It was absolutely amazing - forging, grinding and finishing classes - not to mention some of the best chili I've ever had.

It's one thing to learn from online tutorials but actually seeing mastersmiths at work takes learning to a whole new level... well worth the time and $.

I will call Johnny Stout Mon. and see if I can attend this month, hopefully its not to late. Thanks for the response everybody.
