It depends. On my KMG I didn't bother with it since the platen is adjustable and it's set so that a straight-edge laid along its length doesn't quite touch the idler wheels. If I moved the platen out a bit I'd probably want to chamfer the edges. On my old 4x36 I had no choice but to chamfer the edges. I used a Dremmel tool with a diamond disk.
